O erro HTTP 500 significa que o servidor encontrou uma condição inesperada e não conseguiu atender à solicitação. O código, por si só, não revela a causa: ela pode estar em código, configuração, permissões, recursos, WordPress ou na hospedagem. Se você está apenas visitando o site, tente novamente e contate o suporte caso o problema continue. Se administra o site, investigue os registros e teste uma mudança por vez.
O que significa erro 500?
A RFC 9110 define 500 Internal Server Error como uma resposta enviada quando o servidor encontra uma condição inesperada que o impede de atender à solicitação. O status pertence à classe 5xx, usada quando o servidor reconhece um erro ou não consegue executar o método solicitado. A especificação recomenda que a resposta explique a situação e indique se ela parece temporária ou permanente, exceto em respostas a uma solicitação HEAD; quando houver essa explicação, o navegador deve apresentá-la ao usuário. RFC 9110, seção 15.6.1.
O 500 é genérico: não identifica a causa nem garante que o problema seja temporário. Entre as possibilidades estão configuração inadequada, falta de memória, exceções não tratadas e permissões incorretas, segundo a MDN Web Docs. Essa lista não é exaustiva; é preciso examinar o sistema que gerou a resposta.
Se você está visitando o site
Como visitante, você não controla a aplicação, os arquivos nem os registros do servidor. Recarregue a página uma vez; se o erro persistir, aguarde um pouco ou procure o canal de suporte do site. Não há um reparo local garantido para uma falha do lado do servidor, e limpar cookies ou reinstalar o navegador não deve ser tratado como solução universal.

Ao informar o problema, envie ao suporte a URL, o horário aproximado, a ação que levou ao erro e qualquer identificador de requisição exibido na página. Esses dados podem ajudar o administrador a encontrar a falha correspondente nos registros.
Se você administra o site: investigue antes de alterar
- Delimite o problema. Registre o horário e a rota afetada. Verifique se o erro ocorre em uma página ou ação específica, se também afeta o painel e se começou após uma alteração ou implantação.
- Consulte os registros. Compare a requisição e o horário com os registros do servidor e da aplicação. Procure uma exceção, falha de configuração, limite de recursos ou problema de permissão. O status sozinho não permite diagnosticar qual deles ocorreu; os registros fornecem evidência para restringir a investigação.
- Teste uma hipótese por vez. Se uma alteração recente coincide com o início do erro, reverta-a ou isole-a primeiro. Anote o que mudou e como desfazer cada intervenção. Alterar várias coisas ao mesmo tempo pode ocultar a causa e dificultar a recuperação.
- Confira configuração, recursos e permissões. Trate-os como hipóteses a verificar nos registros, não como motivo para ampliar limites ou mudar permissões às cegas.
- Acione a hospedagem quando necessário. Se os registros apontarem para infraestrutura ou não explicarem a falha, peça ao provedor que verifique o serviço e os limites aplicáveis.
Como investigar erro 500 no WordPress
A documentação oficial do WordPress recomenda verificações controladas porque o erro interno pode ter várias causas. Antes de editar arquivos ou desativar componentes, confirme que você tem acesso ao site e uma forma de reverter a mudança. Faça uma etapa de cada vez e teste se o erro mudou.

1. Teste o arquivo .htaccess
Faça uma cópia do arquivo e renomeie temporariamente o original para testar se ele está corrompido. Se isso resolver o erro, redefina os links permanentes nas configurações do WordPress para gerar um novo arquivo. Se o teste não ajudar, restaure o nome ou a cópia original antes de seguir.
2. Isole conflitos de plugins
Desative temporariamente todos os plugins. Se o erro desaparecer, reative-os um por um, testando o site entre cada ativação, até identificar o componente associado à falha. Se o painel não abrir, a documentação do WordPress indica que a desativação pode ser feita via FTP; mantenha uma forma de restaurar os componentes caso o teste não resolva o problema.

3. Verifique o tema ativo
Troque temporariamente para um tema padrão compatível. Se a falha deixar de ocorrer, o tema ativo pode estar envolvido; investigue essa hipótese antes de fazer outras alterações.
4. Confira a configuração e a hospedagem
Revise a configuração de wp-config.php e pergunte ao provedor se há indisponibilidade ou limite do serviço que possa explicar os registros. Os passos acima são testes para WordPress, não correções garantidas para todo erro 500. Mantenha detalhes de erro restritos aos registros administrativos; não os exponha em uma página pública. Erro 500 não é sinônimo de 502, 503 ou 504
Esses códigos têm significados diferentes. O 500 indica uma condição inesperada genérica no servidor; o 502 descreve uma resposta inválida recebida por um gateway; o 503 indica serviço indisponível; e o 504, um tempo limite no gateway. Não classifique uma falha como 500 apenas porque ocorreu no servidor: consulte a resposta e os registros para entender qual situação se aplica.
