Download Signal from Signal’s official download page or your device’s official app store. Signal offers apps for Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows, macOS, and Linux. You need to install and register Signal on a phone before you can link and use Signal Desktop.
Choose the official Signal download for your device

Download Signal for Android
For most Android users, Google Play is the recommended way to install Signal. Open the official download page and follow its Google Play link, then install Signal and complete the in-app registration or linking steps.
Signal’s official Android APK page states: “The safest and easiest way to install Signal for Android is through the Google Play Store.” Use the direct APK only if you have a specific reason and understand how to verify it. Signal labels this an advanced-user route and says most users should not use it under normal circumstances. Do not download Signal APK files from third-party mirror sites.
When you specifically need the APK
Get the file only from Signal’s official APK page. That page provides a SHA-256 signing-certificate fingerprint and an apksigner verification command; follow its current instructions to verify the download rather than relying on the filename alone.

Download Signal for iPhone or iPad
Install Signal from Apple’s App Store, reached from Signal’s official download page. Signal Support lists iOS 15 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 15 or later for iPad.
An iPad can be linked to a phone. Signal Support also describes registering an iPad separately if it can receive SMS messages or calls at the phone number used for registration.

Download Signal Desktop for Windows or Mac
Choose Windows or Mac on the official download page and install the desktop app. Signal Support lists Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 13 or later as supported minimums.
Desktop is an additional linked device, not a standalone way to register a Signal account. First install and register Signal on an Android phone or iPhone; then use the phone app’s linking process to connect the desktop app. Follow the on-screen instructions in Signal Desktop and on your phone.

Download Signal for Linux
Signal supports 64-bit Linux desktop distributions (amd64/x86_64) and provides a Debian package and an AppImage. The best choice depends on the distribution:
- Debian package: Recommended by Signal for Debian-based distributions such as Debian and Ubuntu. Use the package and installation instructions linked from the official download page.
- AppImage: Described by Signal for most 64-bit Linux distributions. Follow Signal’s installation and signature-verification instructions for the AppImage.
Like Signal on Windows and Mac, Signal Desktop for Linux must be linked to Signal on an Android phone or iPhone before you can use it.

Check compatibility if Signal will not install
Signal Support currently lists these minimum operating-system requirements for installation: Android 6.0 or later; iOS 15 or later; iPadOS 15 or later; Windows 10 or 11; macOS 13 or later; and a 64-bit Linux distribution for desktop. Requirements and download options can change. If your device meets the listed minimum but installation or an update still fails, consult Signal’s install and update troubleshooting guide.
