What Counter-Strike is available for Windows?
The current official Windows listing is Counter-Strike 2 on Steam. Valve describes it as a free-to-play game and a free upgrade to CS:GO, built on the Source 2 engine. The listing says CS:GO items carry forward to Counter-Strike 2. Check the official Steam listing for the current download details.
Valve highlights CS Ratings, Premier mode, global and regional leaderboards, upgraded maps, dynamic smoke grenades, tick-rate-independent gameplay, and redesigned visual effects and audio. These are features as described by Valve, not independent performance or quality assessments.

These are minimum specifications, not a promise of smooth play, a particular frame rate, or suitability for a specific resolution. Steam does not give a performance guarantee for PCs that meet them. Compare your system against the operating system, processor thread count, RAM, graphics API and shader support, and free storage before downloading. Is Counter-Strike 2 free?
The game is listed as free to play. Steam also offers Prime Status as a separate digital account upgrade; it is not presented as a requirement to download or play the game. Valve says Prime players are matched with other Prime players and are eligible for Prime-exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon cases. What to know about reviews and online play
The Steam page notes that reviews written before September 27, 2023 were for CS:GO, which it identifies as the legacy version of Counter-Strike 2.
