Uber has announced plans to bring drone delivery to Uber Eats, but the latest announcement does not confirm that customers can order by drone yet. On August 17, 2026, Uber and Zipline said their first deployments were planned for later in 2026, beginning in Zipline’s existing markets and with expansion targeted across dozens of U.S. cities. As of October 8, 2026, the announcements cited here do not establish a customer launch date or show which addresses are eligible.
What is the current Uber Eats drone-delivery timeline?
The latest plan is the Uber–Zipline partnership announced August 17, 2026. The companies said first Uber Eats deployments would begin later that year, starting in Zipline’s existing markets, with expansion targeting dozens of U.S. cities. They did not give an exact public launch date or a complete city list. Uber’s announcement describes a planned rollout, not confirmation that service is already operating.
The headline’s “this summer” is now outdated: the newest cited plan says “later this year,” not a specific summer date. The available announcements do not confirm whether drone orders had become available to customers by October 8, 2026, or whether any particular address qualifies.
How do the Flytrex and Zipline announcements differ?
Uber has announced two separate drone-delivery relationships for Uber Eats. Their rollout language and geographic detail are not interchangeable.

Can you order Uber Eats by drone in your city?
The cited announcements do not provide an address-level eligibility checker, confirm a customer launch, or identify every launch city. A planned rollout in a partner’s existing markets does not mean every customer in those markets—or every nearby address—will be served.

For a definitive answer, rely on a current Uber Eats consumer-facing availability notice or an in-app option for your delivery address. Until Uber confirms launch availability, treat “later in 2026” and “dozens of U.S. cities” as plans rather than a promise that drone delivery is already available where you live.
What does “in minutes” mean—and what is Zipline’s track record?
Uber’s August 2026 announcement describes Zipline orders arriving “in minutes.” That is the companies’ stated proposition, not independently verified delivery-time performance for Uber Eats orders. Uber’s announcement

In the same announcement, Zipline reported serving more than 5,000 hospitals, saving more than 12,000 lives each year, and flying more than 135 million autonomous miles. These are Zipline-reported figures, not measurements of Uber Eats service. Uber and Zipline also stated a target of one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029; that is a future target, not an achieved volume. Uber’s announcement
Does the FAA announcement mean Uber Eats has approval?
No. The FAA’s August 31, 2026 announcement concerns a remotely piloted hybrid-electric cargo demonstration at Houma-Terrebonne Airport. The agency said it would use findings to identify gaps and support safe integration of advanced air mobility into the national airspace. It does not name Uber, Flytrex, or Zipline, and it is not evidence of approval for an Uber Eats service. FAA announcement

An Associated Press overview from August 2025 described a proposed FAA rule intended to make beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations easier and noted operators had relied on waivers and air-carrier certification. That report is historical context; it does not establish the proposal’s current status or the authorizations held by Uber’s partners. Associated Press overview
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why did Uber announce two drone partnerships?
The two announcements reflect separate partner programs, rather than one confirmed nationwide launch. In its September 2025 announcement, Uber President of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery Sarfraz Maredia described the Flytrex relationship as “the next chapter—bringing the speed and sustainability of drone delivery to the Uber Eats platform, at scale, for the first time.” That is Uber’s executive describing its strategy; it does not independently verify speed, sustainability, or rollout scale.
