Surfshark says it does not log your online activity, and it reports that Deloitte independently assured its no-logs policy in 2023 and 2025. That does not mean the service holds no information at all: Surfshark says it temporarily retains limited connection details and collects account and payment information. A VPN can hide your IP address from the sites you visit and shift network visibility away from your internet provider, but it does not make you completely anonymous.
Does Surfshark keep logs of your internet activity?
Surfshark says it does not record online activity such as browsing history, network traffic, data transfers, IP addresses, or usage information. Its no-logs policy page says Deloitte independently assured the policy in 2023 and 2025. Surfshark’s Trust Center and security page summarize the assurance work; Surfshark says the full 2025 Deloitte report is available to its users, so the complete report is not presented as publicly inspectable on those pages.
There is an important distinction between activity logs and temporary connection information. Surfshark Support says servers may hold information about a connection to a particular VPN server, including a user ID and/or IP address and connection timestamps. It says this information is automatically deleted within 15 minutes after the session ends. That is not the same as a record of the websites visited, but it is still connection-related data. Surfshark’s support explanation was updated December 28, 2023.
What information can Surfshark still have?
“No logs” does not mean “no data.” Surfshark’s Terms of Service describe minimal account and payment information needed to provide and bill for the service. The terms also state: “We don’t collect any information about what you do online (your visited IP addresses, browsing history, session information, used bandwidth, connection time stamps, network traffic or any other similar data).” Read that statement alongside the separate support explanation about temporary connection information and the terms’ account and billing records.

What do Surfshark’s transparency figures show?
Surfshark’s transparency report lists requests received during April–June 2026. The figures below are reported by Surfshark and are not independently verified by the cited report.
| Request type | Surfshark-reported count, April–June 2026 |
|---|---|
| DMCA requests | 374,719 |
| Government-institution inquiries | 33 |
| National security letters | 0 |
| Gag orders | 0 |
| Warrants | 1 |
Surfshark says none of those requests resulted in disclosure of online-activity data. It separately says that in April 2026 it complied with a legally binding Amsterdam District Court warrant in a criminal inquiry, disclosing the existence of an account and payment-related information available to it. This example illustrates the practical limit of a no-activity-logs policy: a provider may still be able to disclose records it does hold. See Surfshark’s transparency report for its reporting and explanation.

Does a VPN make you completely anonymous?
No. A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN server and changes which network intermediary sees your connection. Your internet provider can generally see that you are connecting to a VPN, while websites you visit see the VPN server’s IP address rather than your usual public IP address. The VPN provider, in turn, becomes an important intermediary, which is why its logging policy and assurance evidence matter.
A VPN does not erase account identifiers, payment records, browser fingerprints, cookies, or information you provide to websites. If you sign in to a personal account, that service can still associate your activity with you. Surfshark’s privacy claim is about its handling of online activity, not a promise that every part of your online identity disappears.

What independent security evidence is available?
Surfshark says Deloitte conducted no-logs assurance work in 2023 and 2025. It describes the 2025 work as verifying no activity logs and no IP address storage, among other privacy-related settings. Surfshark also summarizes a 2026 Cure53 assessment of infrastructure and its Dausos protocol, and 2025 SecuRing infrastructure work in its Trust Center. These are summaries published by Surfshark; the claims should not be read as a guarantee that a VPN can prevent every security or privacy failure.

Check Surfshark’s feature list for your operating system before relying on a particular tool. Surfshark says its apps can be used on supported devices, while gaming consoles and smart TVs without its apps can connect through a router or manual configuration. For router coverage, confirm that the router supports VPN-client connections and is compatible with the required configuration; the cited product information does not establish a specific model recommendation. Surfshark’s pricing page reported more than 4,500 servers in 100 countries when checked October 8, 2026; server counts and locations can change.
Who should consider Surfshark’s privacy offer?
Surfshark may suit someone who wants to mask their public IP address from destinations, encrypt traffic on networks they do not trust, or connect several devices under one subscription. Its no-logs position is supported by Surfshark-reported Deloitte assurance and a transparency report, but the policy does not remove account and payment records or the short-lived connection information described by Support.
Before subscribing, weigh the evidence and limitations that matter to you: the scope of the assurance, the specific data categories retained, device support for features such as Kill Switch, and the full price and renewal terms shown at checkout. A VPN is one layer of privacy, not a substitute for secure accounts, careful sharing, or a threat model that fits your needs.
