First, the model is Ryzen 9 7950X—not 7590X
The title’s “7590X” is a model-number error. The processor discussed in the report is AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X Desktop Processor. AMD identifies it as a Ryzen 7000 Series, Zen 4 desktop CPU with 16 cores and 32 threads. Its listed specifications include a 4.5 GHz base clock, boost up to 5.7 GHz, 64 MB of L3 cache, a 170 W default TDP, an AM5 socket, and AVX512 support. AMD lists its launch date as September 27, 2022.
What the March 2024 stock check found
Paul Lilly’s HotHardware report, published March 13, 2024, described MEGAsizeGPU (@Zed__Wang) asking whether the 7950X was out of stock everywhere and whether it had been discontinued. HotHardware’s own quick check found mixed availability: Amazon, Newegg, B&H Photo, GameStop, and some other sellers were reported unavailable or out of stock, while marketplace listings at Amazon and Newegg were described as overpriced. The report also said the CPU was in stock at Best Buy for $549.99 and AMD’s store for $599. Those were historical observations and prices from the report’s 2024 snapshot, not current listings. That mixed snapshot does not support the claim that the processor was literally unavailable everywhere, even at the time. Nor does it establish a confirmed, lasting shortage or show that mining caused the unavailable listings. It is not evidence of availability in October 2026; check current retailer pages for present stock, seller, price, and warranty details.

Why the report connected the CPU to mining
HotHardware pointed to QUBIC (Qubic), a cryptocurrency it described as using CPU hardware, and the 7950X’s AVX512 instruction support as reasons the processor could attract miners. AMD confirms AVX512 support in its specifications. That confirms a feature of the chip, not its mining profitability or any effect on retail supply.
The report quoted MEGAsizeGPU saying, “Now I understand, 7950X is the king in Qubic mining.” “King” was the account’s characterization, not a measured comparison establishing that the 7950X outperformed other processors or that miners were buying enough units to cause a shortage.

How to interpret the reported $3-a-day figure
HotHardware said a Profit-mine calculator showed about $3 profit per 24 hours for a 7950X, with electricity included using a 170 W CPU draw. This was a calculator estimate reported on March 13, 2024—not a guaranteed return, a current estimate, or evidence of actual earnings. The report noted that results vary with location and cryptocurrency volatility. A CPU-draw assumption also should not be mistaken for the power use of a complete mining system.
Mining economics change with coin value and network yield, electricity rates, total system consumption, cooling needs, and the purchase price of the hardware. The report supplies no current figures for those inputs, so its dated estimate cannot answer whether mining the CPU is profitable now.

What to check before buying or assessing a shortage
- Confirm the listing is for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, not a mistyped model number or a different processor.
- Check whether the item is actually in stock, who the seller is, and what warranty and return terms apply; a marketplace offer is not the same as a direct retailer listing.
- Compare current offers rather than relying on March 2024 prices or the historical stock snapshot.
- If evaluating mining economics, use current network-yield and coin-price information along with your local electricity rate, total system draw, cooling costs, and hardware cost. The 2024 calculator estimate does not establish present profitability.
