If a Google Ads promotion does not appear in AI Mode, first check that the campaign and promotion asset are eligible and serving normally. Google’s 2025 statement describes a test of ads in AI Mode in the United States: ads may appear below or integrated into responses “where relevant.” It does not guarantee that a particular ad or promotion will appear in a given response, and Google’s public guidance reviewed here does not provide an AI Mode setting to force one to show. First identify which promotion is missing

Google Ads has two different promotion features, and neither should be confused with the general question of whether an ad appears in AI Mode:

  • Promotion asset: A manually configured asset attached to an account, campaign, or ad group. Google documents it for Search ads, specified YouTube placements, and certain Maps contexts; its help page does not promise an AI Mode placement.
  • Automated promotion: An offer Google identifies and extracts from an advertiser’s website for eligible Search or Performance Max campaigns.
  • AI Mode ad visibility: Whether an ad is selected to appear in a particular AI Mode response. This is conditional, not a guaranteed placement for either promotion type.

For a manual asset, troubleshoot its status, timing, and level. For an automated promotion, check campaign eligibility and whether Google can verify the offer on the site. If the campaign appears to serve normally but the promotion is missing only in AI Mode, standard checks can uncover setup problems but cannot establish that the response should have shown it.

Check a manual promotion asset

Find its status and level

  1. In Google Ads, open Campaigns → Assets.
  2. Filter by Asset type: Promotion.
  3. Inspect the asset’s status, dates, occasion settings, and the Added by column. If a promotion is labeled Google AI, hover over the entry for sourcing details. Hover over the promotion name to see details such as its headline.
  4. Check the level where the asset is attached. An ad-group asset takes precedence over a campaign asset, and a campaign asset takes precedence over an account asset. A more specific asset may therefore be the one Google uses.

Google says occasion-specific promotion assets must be created or edited within six months of the occasion’s start date to be eligible. Assets that have not been modified for six months are automatically paused. Confirm the asset is approved and that its dates and occasion timing match the offer.

Check an automated promotion

Automated promotions depend on both campaign setup and the offer information available on your website. Confirm all of the following:

  • The campaign is active and is a Search or Performance Max campaign.
  • Location assets are attached to the campaign.
  • No manual promotion is currently running on that campaign; running manual promotions can prevent automated promotions from applying.
  • The offer complies with Google Ads policies and is clearly visible and current on the landing page, including its terms, discount, and availability.

Google says automated offers may be eligible to serve for less than 24 hours at a time. If its system continues to verify the offer on the website, it may re-enable the promotion. Check the website itself for stale terms, expired dates, or details that are difficult to find.

Check ordinary Search ad delivery

Use Google’s diagnostic tools instead of repeatedly searching for your own ad. Google recommends Ad Preview and Diagnosis to check whether a Search ad may serve for a relevant search term; repeatedly searching can affect impressions. The preview is a diagnostic snapshot, not a promise of a future impression, and results can change over time. Google Ads: Troubleshoot a Search campaign

Review the underlying delivery checks that can prevent an ad from serving:

  • Campaign, ad group, and ad status, including start and end dates.
  • Account and billing status.
  • Ad and asset approvals.
  • Whether ad groups and assets are active.
  • Budget, bids, and targeting.
  • Negative keywords that may exclude the search.

Google says most ads are reviewed within 24–48 hours. For new accounts or certain image and video formats, review can take up to five business days. These are Google’s stated review windows, not guarantees that an ad or promotion will be selected for a placement.

Interpret what the checks tell you

If Ad Preview and Diagnosis or campaign diagnostics identify a problem, address that account, campaign, ad, targeting, or asset issue first. If Google Ads reports serving but you cannot find the ad manually, follow Google’s troubleshooting flow and check whether the observation is limited to a particular device or surface. If the campaign serves but the promotion is absent, inspect the promotion asset’s status and precedence separately; campaign delivery alone does not confirm that a particular asset appeared.

If those checks pass, they support that the underlying setup is eligible for ordinary Search or Performance Max delivery. They do not prove that an ad will be selected for a specific AI Mode response. Google’s public statement describes a relevance-based US test, and its public help materials do not explain why an individual promotion is absent from a particular response.

What a promotion asset click costs

Google says promotion assets are free to add, but a click on the asset costs the same as a click on the ad headline. Google also says advertisers are charged for no more than two clicks per ad impression. These billing rules do not affect whether a promotion appears in AI Mode.
