It tracks eligible construction-related stocks within the broader S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index, using float-adjusted market-cap weighting. To interpret a quoted level or return, check the return type and the date attached to the figure.
What the index includes
The index measures stocks in the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index that fall into specified construction-related industries under the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). “Construction” is therefore broader than companies that build structures: eligible GICS sub-industries are Construction Materials, Forest Products, Building Products, Construction & Engineering, and Homebuilding. See the official index page and S&P/BYMA Indices Methodology.
The parent index sets another boundary. S&P describes the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index as covering domestic stocks listed on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange that traded on at least 20% of trading days in the preceding 12 months. A stock must therefore meet the parent-universe criteria as well as belong to an eligible GICS sub-industry.
How weighting affects the index
The index is float-adjusted market-cap weighted. In S&P’s terminology, “The indices are FMC weighted.” In practice, a company’s weight reflects its market capitalization adjusted for shares available to investors, rather than an equal allocation to each constituent. A larger-weighted stock can have more influence on index movements than a smaller-weighted one.

This makes concentration important when interpreting the benchmark. On S&P’s performance snapshot dated September 14, 2026, the largest constituent represented 82.5% of the index. That is a dated observation, not a current or permanent weight; check the official index page for updated characteristics.
SPBYCAP, SPBYCAT, and return type
S&P lists SPBYCAP as the Bloomberg ticker for the ARS price-return index and SPBYCAT for the ARS total-return index. The methodology says price-return versions are calculated without adjustment for regular cash dividends. Consequently, the two return types are not interchangeable: identify which one a quoted figure represents before comparing performance.

How to interpret dated figures
S&P’s surfaced performance snapshot was labeled “As of Sep 14, 2026.” It showed 6 constituents, an index level of 32,170.31 ARS, a one-year price return of 36.87%, and a year-to-date price return of -23.13%. These figures describe that snapshot, not live values for October 7, 2026. Constituents, weights, levels, and returns can change. For current data, check S&P’s index page or BYMA historical series.

Is SPBYCAP something you can buy?
The official materials identify index values, tickers, methodology, and data access. They do not establish that SPBYCAP itself is a tradable security or that a fund tracks it. Treat it as a benchmark unless a separate, verifiable product source establishes an investable product.
