Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf voices sound quieter than music or effects, first try your soundbar’s dialogue or voice setting. If it has a center-channel level control, raise it gradually and listen to a familiar scene. If neither control helps, check the TV or connected device for speech-clarity, volume-leveling, or night-mode options. The available controls and their behavior depend on the exact models and audio setup.
Find the soundbar’s speech controls
Identify your soundbar’s exact model and current input, then check its remote, companion app, and manual for a control named Voice, Voice Enhance, Dialogue, Speech Enhancement, or something similar. Names and access paths vary: Samsung calls its feature Voice Enhance, Sony’s HT-A5000 guide uses a VOICE button, and Klipsch Cinema 600 cycles through DIALOG modes.
For supported Samsung models, the Australian support guide describes toggling Voice Enhance with the remote’s Sound Control button or using Advanced Sound Settings in SmartThings. Samsung notes that model and software version can affect SmartThings support and its interface; its cited instructions are for Australian models. See Samsung’s Voice Enhance instructions.
Sony’s HT-A5000/A5000M Help Guide says the VOICE setting enhances the dialogue range. On the Klipsch Cinema 600, the remote cycles through DIALOG modes; Klipsch describes the feature as boosting vocal presence. These are model-specific examples, not controls every soundbar includes. Consult the manual for your model before changing settings.

Adjust the center channel, if your soundbar offers it
Some soundbars let you adjust the center channel separately. Samsung says that channel typically handles most spoken content in movies and shows, and its guide documents a range of -6 dB to +6 dB for the models it covers. That range is not a universal target for other soundbars.
- Open the soundbar’s audio or channel-level settings using the model’s remote or app.
- Increase the center-channel level a small step.
- Replay a familiar scene at your usual listening volume and decide whether speech is clearer without making voices unnaturally prominent.
- Repeat only if needed. If the mix sounds worse, return the level toward its previous setting or use the soundbar’s documented reset/default procedure.
Klipsch gives separate figures for the Cinema 600: its documentation says the vocal frequency range rises by 2 dB per step, up to 6 dB total, and center-channel volume rises by 3 dB per step, up to 9 dB total. Those figures describe that model’s dialogue modes; they are not general soundbar calibration values. See Klipsch Cinema 600 Dialog Mode instructions.

Check the TV or connected device
If the soundbar lacks a useful speech control, or the change has little effect, look in the TV’s audio settings and the settings of any connected streaming device. Depending on the equipment, you may find speech clarity, dialogue enhancement, volume leveling, or night listening. These controls are not present on every TV or device.
In the reviewed Philips/Roku documentation, supported Roku premium audio devices have Speech clarity options Off, Low, and High, as well as Volume mode options that include leveling and night listening. Select Philips/Roku TV models also offer Dialog enhancer. The manual warns that virtual surround can sometimes interfere with dialogue clarity. Availability and labels depend on the supported TV and device configuration; see the relevant Philips/Roku TV owner’s manual.

Check whether the input or sound mode disables the feature
A control can be unavailable because of how the soundbar is connected or which sound mode is active. Sony says its VOICE setting is disabled when the HT-A5000 is connected to a Bluetooth device in Bluetooth transmission mode. Check the guide for your soundbar and the device or input you are using; switching to a supported connection or mode may restore the option.
As an adjacent example—not a soundbar instruction—Denon’s AVR-X7200W receiver documentation says Dialog Enhancer is unavailable with Direct, Virtual, or Pure Direct sound modes and with 7.1CH IN. The example illustrates why it is worth checking mode restrictions in the manual rather than assuming a missing or inactive control is a fault. See Denon AVR-X7200W Dialog Enhancer documentation.

Retest before making more changes
Use the same familiar scene and listening volume after each adjustment. A dialogue mode or higher center level may help with one program but make another sound unbalanced. If a change worsens the mix, undo it or restore the soundbar’s defaults using the instructions for that model. Manufacturer documentation describes selectable settings, but does not establish one best setting for every room, program, or listener.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When an upgrade may be worth considering
Consider a different soundbar only if your current model lacks a speech-focused mode or adjustable center channel and the available TV or source-device settings do not solve the problem. Before choosing one, confirm in its manual that the feature works with your TV connection and source, and check any input, mode, software, or regional restrictions. The documented examples here establish that particular models have these controls; they do not provide comparable listening tests or support ranking brands for dialogue performance.
