Let a recently used battery rest at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes. After that, use the LED instructions and reset steps for your exact charger model. Stop if the battery is cracked or broken.
Start by checking the battery and charger models
Read the voltage and model numbers printed on the battery and charger before troubleshooting. Greenworks batteries are intended for tools on the same voltage platform, and chargers are designated for particular platforms; some series have exceptions. A charger that fits physically is not necessarily compatible. Check Greenworks’ battery and charger compatibility information and the manuals for your exact models.
For example, Greenworks identifies its 40V charger as compatible with its 40V lithium-ion batteries, but that example does not establish compatibility across every Greenworks product. Do not use a generic adapter or assume a charger is universal.
Check the outlet and charger contacts
- Confirm the outlet has power. Make sure it is switched on, then test it with another device or tool. Greenworks manuals advise checking that current is available at the outlet.
- Look at the charger contacts. Check for visible debris or foreign material. Do not scrape the contacts or apply liquid; consult the charger manual for any model-specific maintenance instructions.
- Recheck the connection. With the charger unplugged, seat the battery as directed by its manual. Do not open or attempt to repair the charger.
Let a recently used battery cool before charging
If the battery was just used, remove it from the charger and let it rest indoors at room temperature for approximately 10–15 minutes, then try again. Greenworks says a recently used battery can produce a false full-charge indication. This timing comes from its 24V charger FAQ; follow your own model’s manual if its instructions differ.

A battery or charger that is too hot or too cold may also prevent charging. Let both return to room temperature before retrying. The temperature limits vary by model, so use the exact manual rather than applying a single threshold to all Greenworks batteries.
Use the LED indication for your exact charger
LED meanings are charger-specific. The following interpretations are from Greenworks’ cited 24V charger FAQ; check the manual for your charger before treating a light pattern as a diagnosis.

| Indicator or symptom | What Greenworks says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blinking green | The battery is properly charging. | Leave it connected as directed in the manual and check the status again. |
| Solid red | This typically indicates the battery is at the wrong temperature to charge. | Allow the battery and charger to reach room temperature, then retry. Use the manual for temperature limits. |
| Blinking red | A persistent blinking-red condition after the reset steps may indicate an issue with the battery or charger. | Follow the reset below. If it continues, contact Greenworks rather than assuming which component has failed. |
| Charger indicates full just after use | A recently used battery can trigger a false full-charge signal. | Let the battery rest indoors at room temperature for approximately 10–15 minutes, then retry. |
Reset a charger that is blinking red
- Remove the battery from the charger and leave it out for one minute.
- Reinsert the battery and check whether the indicator changes.
- If it still blinks red, remove the battery and unplug the charger for one minute.
- Reconnect the charger, reinsert the battery, and check the indicator again.
These steps are from Greenworks’ 24V charger FAQ. If your charger’s manual gives different instructions or LED codes, follow that manual.
Stop if the battery is damaged
Do not charge or use a cracked or broken battery, and do not open or try to repair the pack. Greenworks’ battery safety guidance recommends taking damaged or worn batteries to a certified lithium-ion recycling or disposal center. Follow local requirements for battery disposal.

- WHY BUY GENUINE GREENWORKS BATTERY – Aftermarket batteries often lack safety circuits, official warranty and Greenworks battery management system. This can lead to poor performance, overheating and even damage to your tools. Plus, using a non‑genuine battery may void your tool's warranty. For reliable power and safety, please always choose genuine Greenworks battery packs.
If the fault persists, contact Greenworks before replacing parts
If an intact battery still will not charge after the model-specific checks and reset, the fault could be in the battery or the charger; the indicator alone may not identify which. Contact Greenworks Customer Support for manuals and service information, and check the warranty terms before buying a replacement. Coverage depends on the product and applicable terms; Greenworks says to contact Customer Care and obtain a Return Authorization before returning an item accepted under warranty.
If you can safely verify compatibility, testing with a known-compatible battery or charger may help isolate the faulty component. Do not substitute an unverified charger. Consider a replacement charger only after confirming that it matches the battery’s exact voltage platform and series; replace a battery only if it has been determined to be faulty.
