How to store a Greenworks battery
Greenworks recommends keeping batteries indoors in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. When a battery is not charging, disconnect it from the charger; do not leave it attached as a storage arrangement. Greenworks’ product FAQ recommends storing the battery with a full charge. For extended storage, check its charge every couple of months and charge it back up if it has dropped before returning it to storage. See Greenworks’ official support guidance and battery FAQ.
These recommendations do not establish that every garage or shed is suitable. Use one only if it meets the cool, dry, indoor-storage guidance and the temperature limits in your model’s manual. The cited Greenworks guidance does not call for a special storage case.
Temperature, use, and charging
Do not use or charge a pack when it is too hot or cold for the instructions that apply to it. Greenworks says a cold battery may not operate in a snow thrower and advises letting it reach room temperature; for other tools, let an overly warm battery cool before use. Check the owner’s manual for the limits that apply to your model.

For one specific example, Greenworks’ 2022 40V String Trimmer Operator Manual gives a battery storage range of 32°F (0°C) to 113°F (45°C), and a charger operating range of 39°F (4°C) to 104°F (40°C). These are limits for that manual’s product context, not universal Greenworks or lithium-ion limits. The manual is available from Greenworks.
Greenworks’ 2023 40V Mower Operator Manual warns that charging outside the specified temperature range or contrary to the charging instructions may damage the battery and increase fire risk. Follow the charging instructions supplied for your particular tool and battery, rather than applying another model’s temperature figures. See the 40V mower manual.

Check compatibility before using or replacing a battery
Greenworks batteries are platform-specific: match the battery’s voltage to the tool and verify the exact models before assuming they fit. Greenworks notes two exceptions that illustrate why checking matters:
- Certain 80V snow throwers manufactured before September 2017 accept only 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah packs.
- The 60V 8.0Ah battery, model 2957102, is too tall for certain dual-port mowers, pressure washers, and wet/dry vacuums.
Greenworks identifies designated chargers for each voltage platform. Verify that the charger is intended for the battery’s platform as well as checking the tool fit. The Greenworks battery FAQ provides the platform and exception details.

If you need a replacement, compare the voltage platform, the exact tool and battery models, capacity in amp-hours (Ah), and the charger designation. Capacity is one factor in expected runtime, but the right replacement is the pack Greenworks lists as compatible with your specific tool—not simply any Greenworks battery.
