Yes, if you already plan to buy the game and want the Year 1 pass as a whole. At listed US prices, Digital Deluxe is $25 more than Standard, while PlayStation currently lists the pass alone for $34.99. But only Phoenix Cyclops has been named in the official sources reviewed, so buyers interested in one specific character should wait for more reveals.
What does the Year 1 pass include?
The pass includes four additional playable characters, one additional stage, and battle-result poses for the base roster. The official FAQ says the characters and stage become accessible when released, but does not provide release dates in the text reviewed. MARVEL Tōkon’s official FAQ describes the pass contents.

Which DLC characters are confirmed?
Phoenix Cyclops is the first announced Year 1 character in the July 23, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement by Takeshi Yamanaka, Producer at Arc System Works. The other three identities are not established by the official sources reviewed here. If your purchase depends on a particular character, wait until that character is officially named and its gameplay is shown.

| Option | US listed price | What’s included | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $59.99 | Base game | Buyers unsure about the pass or its unnamed characters. |
| Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | Base game, Year 1 Character and Stage Pass, Howard the Duck lobby avatar, and Cosmo lobby pet | Buyers who already want the game and value the pass. |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Digital Deluxe contents, chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters, and five additional costumes | Buyers who also want the extra cosmetics. |
| Year 1 Character and Stage Pass, standalone | $34.99 on the US PlayStation Store, as listed October 7, 2026 | Four additional characters, one stage, and base-roster battle-result poses | Existing owners comparing a separate pass purchase with a bundle. |
Digital Deluxe is $25 above Standard, compared with the pass’s current $34.99 standalone listing. Buying Standard plus the pass at those listed prices totals $94.98 before discounts, and does not include the two Deluxe lobby items. The bundle makes financial sense if you want the pass, but its value depends on wanting the pass as a package—not on a promise that any one particular character will suit you.
Is Ultimate worth the extra $15?
Ultimate costs $15 more than Digital Deluxe at the listed US prices. That premium adds five costumes and chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters; the listed package does not add a larger Year 1 character pass. Choose it only if those cosmetics are worth the extra spend to you.

What does the base game offer without DLC?
PlayStation describes a launch roster of 20 characters and a 4v4 tag-team fighter with adjustable traditional and quick inputs. The game page also lists Episode Mode, offline play options, cross-play, and online modes. PlayStation’s game page has the official feature overview.
Tom’s Guide’s September 2026 review assessed the game as mechanically deep for experienced fighting-game players, while noting that tutorials and simpler inputs may help newcomers. Can you play offline, and what does online play require?
The official FAQ lists Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, and Character Guides as offline content. For online play and features, PS5 requires an internet connection and PlayStation Plus; PC requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. If you expect to play online on PS5, include the subscription requirement in your decision. The official FAQ provides these platform requirements.
Can physical PS5 buyers add the pass later?
Yes. The official FAQ says owners of the physical PS5 Standard Edition can buy a Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrade through the PlayStation Store. That gives uncertain buyers a way to start with Standard and upgrade later if the pass or cosmetics become compelling. Check that any physical listing is for the PS5 Standard Edition before buying; the pass and upgrade are digital purchases.

Who should buy it for the DLC?
- Choose Digital Deluxe if you already want the game and value the four-character, one-stage pass as a whole. At the listed US prices, its $25 premium over Standard is less than the standalone pass’s current $34.99 listing.
- Choose Standard if the unnamed characters make the pass difficult to value, or if you want to wait for character announcements. Physical PS5 Standard owners can upgrade digitally later.
- Choose Ultimate if the five extra costumes and colors for the launch roster have value to you independent of the DLC characters.
- Wait before buying for one character if you are interested only in a specific DLC fighter that has not yet been officially identified in the sources cited here.
