1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA black screen or a long pause after installing DDR5 does not always mean the PC has failed: the motherboard may still be training the memory. Give the first boot time to complete, then troubleshoot in order—restore default memory settings, test each DIMM, and verify the kit against the exact motherboard and CPU. Avoid repeated forced shutdowns while the system still appears to be training.
First, decide whether the PC is still training
DDR5 training lets the memory controller, BIOS, and DRAM establish a working configuration. It can happen on first boot, after a memory change, or after a BIOS update. During the process, the PC may show no video, pause, or restart before continuing to the operating system. A black screen alone is not proof of a failed install.
Wait times vary by platform and configuration. Kingston says some DDR5 PCs may take 3–5 minutes and some server or workstation systems up to 15 minutes; greater installed capacity can extend training. ASUS gives approximately 5–10 minutes for applicable products, including up to 10 minutes for 64 GB. These are manufacturer troubleshooting estimates, not guarantees for every motherboard. Keep the system connected to power and do not force it off while it is within an applicable training interval and showing no error indication. Kingston advises against bypassing training: Kingston memory support FAQ KTM-012711-GEN-20. ASUS’s no-display guidance is for its applicable product families, not a universal desktop-board timeout: ASUS boot-failure and black-screen troubleshooting.
Watch the motherboard’s DRAM debug LED or POST code, and note any message on screen. If the indication changes or the PC eventually reaches BIOS or the operating system, training may have completed. If it remains stuck beyond the relevant vendor guidance, or displays an error, proceed to recovery rather than repeatedly power-cycling it.

Restore default memory settings
If you can enter BIOS, disable XMP or EXPO and any manually set memory frequency or timings. Select Auto or the board’s default settings, save, and try booting again. XMP and EXPO are memory overclock profiles; a kit’s advertised profile speed is not assured on every CPU and motherboard combination. ASUS notes that the maximum DRAM frequency depends on the module, motherboard, and CPU: ASUS guidance on setting XMP/EXPO/DOCP.
If the PC cannot POST because of a profile or manual setting, clear CMOS using the procedure in the exact motherboard manual. Boards may use a jumper, button, or another method; do not assume the procedure or pin locations are the same between models. CMOS clearing restores firmware settings, so expect to reconfigure any custom BIOS options afterward. Kingston also recommends returning to Auto or clearing CMOS when profile settings cause instability: Kingston memory support FAQ KTM-030615-HYX-10.

Reseat the DIMMs and test them one at a time
- Shut the PC down, switch off and disconnect its power supply, and follow the motherboard manual’s safety and installation instructions before handling memory.
- Remove and reinstall the DIMMs, pressing each fully into place until its latch or latches engage. Check that the notch aligns with the slot.
- Install one DIMM in the single-module slot recommended by the motherboard manual, then try to boot at default settings.
- If it does not work, power down and test the other DIMM in that same recommended slot.
- If needed, test the modules in other slots permitted by the manual. Record whether a problem follows one DIMM or stays with a particular slot or channel.
Slot recommendations and supported population patterns vary by board, so use its manual rather than assuming a universal slot order. MSI recommends one-stick-at-a-time testing to help distinguish a faulty module from a slot issue: MSI troubleshooting for a DRAM EZ Debug LED.
Check the exact kit, CPU, board, and configuration
Before changing firmware or buying parts, record the full memory kit part number, capacity, number of modules, motherboard model and revision, processor model, and BIOS version. Check the motherboard maker’s memory support list (often called a QVL) and the CPU’s memory specifications. Confirm that the installed module count and capacity follow the board’s population rules; supported speeds can vary with the number of DIMMs and memory ranks.

- Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depends on system components, including motherboard and CPU.
- G.SKILL Flare X5 Series DDR5 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5
- Non-ECC, DDR5 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and AMD EXPO & Intel XMP 3.0 memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
Use a matched kit rather than combining unrelated modules. Kingston cautions that overclockable modules or kits with different densities or specifications can cause instability or fail to overclock. It also notes that some first-generation DDR5 platforms may need a motherboard BIOS update to support 24Gbit-density modules. Compatibility guidance and population details are available from Kingston memory support.
- Boots at defaults but fails with XMP/EXPO: the system can use the memory at its standard settings, but the profile may not be stable for this CPU, board, and configuration. Keep defaults or use a lower supported setting rather than treating the advertised profile as guaranteed.
- One DIMM fails in the same slot where the other works: the problem may follow that module. Confirm by repeating the test carefully at defaults.
- Both DIMMs work in one slot but fail in another: suspect a slot, channel, board, or CPU-socket-related issue; consult the manual and vendor support before attempting invasive work.
- Neither DIMM works in the recommended slot: recheck seating and compatibility, then consider BIOS support or a hardware fault.
Update BIOS only when the exact board supports it
If the kit remains undetected or unstable at defaults, check the support page and release notes for the exact motherboard model and revision for memory-compatibility updates. Use only firmware intended for that precise board and follow its manufacturer’s procedure; a BIOS image for a different model or revision can leave the system unusable. If the board offers a supported Flash BIOS feature, follow its own instructions rather than improvising. MSI lists its supported Flash BIOS method as one possible compatibility step: MSI DRAM LED troubleshooting.

Know when to stop and get hardware support
If the kit still fails at default settings after reseating and individual-DIMM tests, contact the memory and motherboard manufacturers. Provide the kit part number, board and CPU models, BIOS revision, debug LED or POST code, and the results for each stick and slot. Kingston advises contacting technical support when memory fails at default settings: Kingston memory support FAQ KTM-030615-HYX-10.
If modules work in some slots but a channel consistently fails, the CPU memory controller or socket pins may be involved. CPU removal or socket inspection can damage components; leave that work to a qualified technician if you are not experienced with it. MSI identifies these as possible causes in its DRAM LED guidance: MSI DRAM EZ Debug LED troubleshooting.
