When a Windows AI feature is missing, first check whether your PC, Windows setup, and region support that specific feature. A missing control does not necessarily mean Windows is broken: Copilot+ features have different hardware and security requirements, while settings, app versions, language, and organization policies can also affect availability.
Start with eligibility, not repairs
Identify the exact feature, then compare its requirements with your PC’s specifications and Windows configuration. A Copilot+ PC label is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that every feature or action is available. Microsoft describes Copilot+ PCs as having an NPU capable of more than 40 TOPS, but feature-specific requirements can differ. A processor brand or Copilot key alone does not establish eligibility. See Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC information and the relevant feature requirements below.
- Check your PC maker’s specifications for the NPU, memory, storage, camera, and security hardware.
- Confirm your Windows version and whether the feature has additional account, language, or regional conditions.
- If this is a work or school PC, ask IT whether device management or policy controls the feature.
Install Windows updates and check the feature’s entry point
Some Copilot+ AI components are delivered through Windows Update separately from core Windows feature updates. Check for updates even if Windows appears current, install what is available, and restart when prompted. Updating does not guarantee that an ineligible or region-limited feature will appear, but it can provide components required by supported devices. Microsoft explains this servicing model in its Windows AI components guidance.
Next, check whether the feature is simply hidden or switched off. For Windows Studio Effects, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, and inspect Quick Settings. If its Quick Settings action is absent, add it. For Click to Do, try Windows+Q or Windows+click, then check Settings > Privacy & security > Click to Do.

Check the requirements for the specific feature
Windows Studio Effects
Studio Effects requires an NPU and current Windows updates. Microsoft documents the full range of enhancements on Copilot+ PCs with an NPU above 40 TOPS. On NPU devices below 40 TOPS, Microsoft lists background effects, standard eye contact, automatic framing, and voice focus. Some higher-end effects are limited to Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs. Compatible third-party cameras can be used. Find the controls in Quick Settings, Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, or the Camera app. Missing controls may mean the device lacks an NPU. Camera effects can affect performance and battery life. See Microsoft’s Windows Studio Effects support page.
Click to Do
Microsoft lists these requirements: a Copilot+ PC or eligible Cloud PC, a 40 TOPS NPU, 16 GB RAM, eight logical processors, and 256 GB storage. Available entry points include Windows+click, Windows+Q, a right swipe on a touch-enabled PC, Windows Search, and Snipping Tool. The Snipping Tool entry point requires version 11.2411.20.0 or later. Microsoft’s Click to Do support page has the current feature details.

If Click to Do does not open, make sure it is enabled at Settings > Privacy & security > Click to Do. When disabled, its keyboard and touch entry points will not launch the experience, and opening it from another place may show an error.
Recall
Recall is optional and, in Microsoft’s cited support guidance, described as a preview for eligible Copilot+ PCs. Its requirements include a supported secured-core Copilot+ PC, a 40 TOPS NPU, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, and at least 50 GB free to enable it. The PC also needs device encryption or BitLocker and Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security with a biometric sign-in option. You must opt in to saving snapshots; eligibility alone does not turn them on. Microsoft says snapshots and associated context are encrypted on the local drive, and users can pause, turn off, filter, or delete snapshots. See Microsoft’s Recall support information.

Check app, language, account, and region conditions
Some Click to Do actions depend on more than the PC’s hardware. For intelligent text actions, Microsoft requires English as the default language, a selection of at least 10 words, and a Microsoft or Entra account. Actions also vary by region; Microsoft documents unavailable actions in the EEA and China, among other differences. If Photos or Paint actions are missing, update those apps through Microsoft Store. These conditions are detailed in Microsoft’s Click to Do guidance.
Escalate managed-device and persistent problems safely
On a work or school PC, availability may be affected by device management or policy. Contact your organization’s IT team if the ordinary eligibility, update, and setting checks do not explain the problem. Microsoft’s Windows recovery guidance recommends starting with less disruptive options and warns that some recovery choices can cause data loss.

Do not reset Windows as a routine fix for a feature that the PC does not meet the requirements for, or one unavailable because of regional, language, account, or organization settings. The documented feature guidance does not establish a universal fix for every driver, BIOS, rollout, or OEM-specific issue. If a feature remains unavailable after these checks, consult Microsoft or the PC maker for device-specific support.

If your PC does not meet the requirements for a feature you specifically want, a Copilot+ PC that meets that feature’s exact specifications is an optional upgrade path. Verify the model’s NPU, RAM, storage, Recall security and Windows Hello requirements, and any platform-specific Studio Effects support before buying. New hardware will not fix a disabled setting, outdated component, region or language limitation, or organization policy.
