Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBefore buying a horror game on Steam, check what the current game is like, whether its content suits you, what recent players say, whether your computer can run it, and whether it is a finished release. If it is in Early Access, judge the version available today—not a promised future version. Steam’s refund policy may offer a fallback, but it has conditions.
Does the game match the kind of horror you want?
Start with the Steam store page’s description, screenshots, and trailer. Look for the actual play loop and presentation: what you do, how the game looks, and the kind of experience it appears to offer. A horror label alone does not tell you whether a game’s approach will appeal to you.

Tags can help you narrow that down. They may describe genre, perspective, mood, themes, and gameplay features, but they are clues rather than promises: developers, players with non-limited accounts, and moderators can apply them, and the mix may change. Compare the tags with the written description and media instead of relying on tags alone. Steamworks: Tags
Are the content disclosures acceptable to you?
Check the store page for a developer-provided mature-content description, then decide whether the disclosed material fits your boundaries. Disclosures are not necessarily a universal rating or a complete guarantee of everything a horror game contains. For example, the Steam page for Welcome to the Game lists some nudity or sexual content, frequent violence or gore, and general mature content; that is information about that game, not a standard that applies to every horror title. What do reviews say—and are the concerns current?
Look at both the recent and lifetime review summaries, then open recent reviews that discuss issues you care about. Steam displays a score for the past 30 days alongside a lifetime score; the underlying comments can reveal why players recommend or criticize a game. A single percentage cannot tell you whether the reasons behind it matter to you.
Reviews may discuss the game itself, value, business practices, or the community experience. Focus on recurring, relevant points and how recently they appear. Only reviews from Steam purchases count toward the review score, and Early Access reviews are labeled after a game reaches full release. Steam: User Reviews Steam: Reviews and recommendations

Will it run on your computer?
Find the game’s System Requirements section on its store page and compare it with your own computer. Check both the supported operating systems and the listed hardware requirements; do not assume that a game will work just because your PC runs other Steam games. Steam Support specifically recommends checking these details. Steam Support: System Requirements
Is it a finished release or Early Access?
Check the store page’s release status and, for an Early Access game, read the developer’s Early Access information. Steam describes Early Access as a work in progress and warns that some developers may not finish their games. The practical test is whether the current build looks worth your money and time on its own, without relying on future features or a planned full release. Steam puts it plainly: “So you should only buy an Early Access game if you are excited about playing it in its current state.” Steam Support: Early Access

What does Steam’s refund policy actually allow?
For a title, Steam’s general guidance says Valve will issue a refund if you request it within 14 days of purchase and have played for less than two hours. This is not an unconditional guarantee: eligibility and conditions can vary by purchase type, so read the current policy before treating a refund as a safety net. Early Access purchases remain subject to Steam’s refund policy. Steam: Refunds Steam Support: Early Access

Quick Recap
Best Value
- A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
- A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
- A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
- The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
- The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.
