If your Fire TV Stick does not appear after you switch TV inputs, first select the HDMI input the Stick is physically plugged into. If that does not work, restart and reseat the Stick, test it without any HDMI equipment between it and the TV, then cycle HDMI-CEC settings.
1. Select the HDMI input the Fire TV Stick uses
Use the TV remote’s Source or Input button and choose the HDMI port where the Stick is connected. The Fire TV home screen will appear only when the TV is showing that port. Amazon’s setup guidance says, “Tip: Use the remote that came with your TV to select the HDMI source or input.” Amazon’s Fire TV Stick setup instructions explain the source-selection step.
2. Restart and reseat the Stick
- Restart the Fire TV device.
- Disconnect the Stick from the TV’s HDMI port, then reconnect it securely.
- Use the TV remote to select that HDMI port again.

3. Bypass intermediate HDMI equipment
If the Stick runs through an HDMI hub, receiver, or other equipment, temporarily connect it directly to the TV. This helps determine whether the intermediate connection is preventing the picture from reaching the TV. When using a receiver or soundbar, also confirm that it is set to the input connected to the Fire TV Stick.

4. Cycle HDMI-CEC settings
If the picture is still missing, turn HDMI-CEC Device Control off and back on in Fire TV settings. On the Fire TV, go to Settings > Display & Sounds > HDMI-CEC Device Control. Amazon includes this toggle in its blank-screen troubleshooting guidance.
You can also check whether HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV. Manufacturers use different names for this feature, including Anynet+ on Samsung TVs, SIMPLINK on LG, BRAVIA Sync on Sony, and EasyLink on Philips. The TV’s menu path and label can vary by model and software version; consult its manual if the setting is not where expected. Amazon lists examples in its guide to HDMI ARC and HDMI CEC settings.

5. Consider an HDMI extender only if the connection is awkward
An extender can help if the Stick is difficult to fit into the TV’s HDMI port or is obstructed by the TV’s shape. It is an optional fit solution, not a fix for choosing the wrong input or a faulty HDMI port. Amazon identifies an extender as an option in its Fire TV Stick HD setup guidance.
