If your controller is not detected, inputs are missing, or the camera moves when you leave the stick alone, start with Riders Republic’s controller settings. Check the preset and mapping, then try a slightly larger stick dead zone. On PC, test with only one controller-input layer active. If the same stick moves on its own in other games or a controller tester, the issue may be with the controller rather than Riders Republic.
Check the in-game controller preset and mapping
Riders Republic offers Racer, Steep, and Trickster presets. Ubisoft’s control customization instructions place the settings at Options > Controller > Controller Mapping.
- Open Options > Controller.
- Review the selected preset: Racer, Steep, or Trickster. Choose the one you intend to use.
- Open Controller Mapping to check or change individual inputs.
- Test in-game to see whether the expected buttons now perform the intended actions.
This is the first place to look when the controller is detected but buttons are assigned unexpectedly or seem to be missing. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment affects the symptom.
Adjust dead zone and camera sensitivity for unintended movement
Ubisoft says that Riders Republic lets players change both stick dead zones and camera sensitivity. Its accessibility options overview explains that a smaller dead zone makes a stick more sensitive to input.

- In the controller options, find the stick dead-zone setting.
- Increase the dead zone modestly, then test whether small unintended stick readings still move the camera.
- Adjust camera sensitivity separately to suit your preference.
A larger dead zone is a reasonable test if tiny stick readings are moving the camera, but it is not a confirmed repair for a worn or damaged stick. It can also make deliberate small movements less responsive. If the camera still drifts, use the cross-game test below rather than assuming a setting has fixed the hardware.
On PC, test for conflicting controller input layers
If Riders Republic fails to detect the controller consistently, keeps switching to keyboard prompts, or registers doubled or missing inputs, more than one program may be handling the controller. Community discussions mention Steam settings and other controller-handling software, but these are anecdotal reports, not a Ubisoft-confirmed universal fix: Steam community discussion and Reddit report about a PS5 controller on PC.

- Close controller remappers and extra launcher input layers temporarily, leaving one input path active for the test.
- Restart Riders Republic and check whether detection, prompts, and button inputs behave consistently.
- If needed, restore the original setup and change one input-layer setting at a time, restarting the game between tests.
These reports date from 2023–2024, so behavior may differ with current software versions. Treat this as a reversible diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix. If the controller works in other games but not Riders Republic, prioritize the game’s mapping and the PC input path rather than reinstalling the game as a first step.
Find out whether the problem follows the controller
Test the same controller in another game or with a controller tester, leaving the stick untouched. This helps separate a Riders Republic-specific input issue from a controller or calibration problem.

- The stick moves in multiple games or a tester: the problem may be with the controller or its calibration. Check the manufacturer’s calibration and support guidance, and review warranty options before considering replacement.
- The stick is steady elsewhere but the camera moves in Riders Republic: return to the game’s dead-zone and sensitivity settings, then check mapping and, on PC, overlapping input layers.
- The controller is not detected anywhere: troubleshoot the controller and platform connection, not just Riders Republic.
This test does not by itself identify a specific hardware fault. Avoid buying a replacement based only on camera drift in one game.
Check platform compatibility before naming a controller
Ubisoft maintains a supported peripherals page for Riders Republic. Check its current platform-specific list before relying on a particular model’s compatibility; compatibility can depend on the platform. A Steam discussion quotes Ubisoft support as saying PlayStation controllers are supported on PC, but that is a community post rather than the official compatibility page itself: Steam community discussion.

Report a persistent, reproducible game issue
Ubisoft lists Riders Republic among games with a dedicated bug reporting tool on its bug-reporting help page. If the problem persists after the settings and input-path checks, provide a clear report that helps reproduce it.
