What each kind of play means for your choice
Campaign: a solo story you can play on your own
A campaign is the clearest fit if you want a structured single-player story rather than a series of online matches. Both Black Ops 6 and Battlefield 6 include one. Activision’s description of Black Ops 6 points to varied spaces, heists, and spy activity, while EA describes a single-player campaign for Battlefield 6. EA announced nine single-player missions in its October 2025 launch announcement. These descriptions establish that a campaign is included, not how good it is or how long it will take to finish.
Competitive multiplayer: matches against other players
If you want map-based matches against other people, Black Ops 6 and Battlefield 6 are the clearer matches in this set. At launch, Black Ops 6 offered core 6v6 maps and smaller Strike maps for 2v2 or 6v6. Those are launch counts, not a guarantee of the current map lineup; Activision’s PlayStation Store page also describes six new Zombies maps, a separate mode. Its Portal tools add a creation layer, letting players build or experience custom content rather than limiting play to a fixed list of standard modes. Mode availability and live-service offerings may change. EA also says you do not need to play earlier Battlefield games first.
Co-op: play with friends against the game
Co-op means you and your teammates work together against game-controlled enemies or objectives; it is not just another name for competitive multiplayer. Helldivers 2 is the co-op-first option among these examples: PlayStation describes squad missions and supports up to four online players. It should not be treated as a conventional solo-campaign-plus-competitive-multiplayer package. PlayStation’s game page lists the online-player limit and online-play requirement.

Check connection, subscription, and PS5 fit
Online access and PlayStation Plus
Online requirements can determine whether a game fits your setup. PlayStation explicitly says Helldivers 2 requires online play and PlayStation Plus for online play. EA says Battlefield 6 requires an online connection; its FAQ says PS5 players can toggle crossplay to exclude PC, but long matchmaking waits may override that preference. The cited Black Ops 6 sources warn that online services can be modified or discontinued, so check the current PlayStation Store listing for the requirements that apply to the mode you intend to play.
PS5 settings and platform details
For standard PS5, EA’s Battlefield 6 FAQ lists selectable Fidelity and Performance modes. EA says Fidelity targets 60 FPS at a maximum of 1440p, while Performance targets 80+ FPS at a maximum of 1280p. These are EA’s target figures, not independent measurements, and they are not a promise of identical performance in every scene. Consult EA’s official FAQ for the PS5 qualification and other platform details. If you are buying a disc, verify that the exact edition and retailer listing are for PS5; PlayStation Direct lists a physical PS5 disc for Helldivers 2.
