To update a Viltrox lens, first find the official instructions and firmware for your exact lens model and mount. Viltrox supports different update routes on different products, so do not use a file or procedure intended for a similar lens. If your computer does not show the “Viltrox DFU” drive, check the USB cable and connection before trying another update file.
Find the right firmware and update method
Go to the Viltrox Download Center or the official product page for your lens. Match the model and mount exactly, then follow that product’s guide. Depending on the product, Viltrox documents PC-software, document-based transfer, or app-based updates; app support is limited to supported products. There is no universal method for every Viltrox lens.
Use the guide to identify the correct firmware package and the file to transfer. Update files may use extensions such as .vtx, .bin, or .dat; an extension alone does not show that a file is right for your lens. Some instructions use a DeviceInformation.txt file to check the current version, but Viltrox notes that the files shown can vary by product and method. Not seeing that file is not, by itself, proof of a fault.
Update by connecting the lens to a computer
Use this route only if the guide for your exact lens calls for PC transfer. Viltrox’s lens firmware update guide describes the following general sequence; the model-specific guide takes precedence if its steps differ.

- Disconnect the lens from the camera and connect it to the computer with a data-capable USB cable that fits the lens’s port.
- Locate the “Viltrox DFU” drive on the computer. If the package instructions require it, extract the downloaded firmware package.
- Copy the specific update file identified by the lens guide to the DFU drive. Do not choose a file just because its name or extension looks plausible.
- Wait for the copy and update process to finish. The drive may disappear while the update is running and reappear afterward; keep the connection in place while the model-specific process completes.
- Use the guide’s version-check step to confirm that the update installed. The check may differ by model and method.
Fix a computer that does not detect the DFU drive
If the lens is connected but the “Viltrox DFU” drive is missing, start with the connection rather than trying firmware for another model. Viltrox’s Support Center recommends checking the following:
- Make sure the lens is disconnected from the camera and that the update method you selected is intended for that exact model.
- Use a known data-capable cable. A charging-only cable may power the lens without carrying the data needed for detection. There is no single cable connector that fits every product, so check the port on your lens or adapter.
- Plug directly into a computer USB port instead of using a hub. If the drive remains missing, try another known-good data cable, port, or computer.
If those checks do not help, stop experimenting with firmware files and contact Viltrox support. Provide the exact product model, serial number, firmware version if known, and the cable and port used. A clear photo or short video of the connection and what the computer displays can help explain the problem.

If the drive disappears during an update
A temporary disappearance can be part of the installation process. Leave the cable connected and allow the model-specific update to finish; then check whether the drive returns and verify the installed version using the product guide. If it does not return or the lens no longer works normally, stop and contact support before attempting another installation.
If the lens still will not focus or communicate with the camera

- Confirm that the lens is securely mounted and that the electronic contacts on both lens and camera are clean.
- Check that the camera battery is sufficiently charged, then reseat the lens.
- Check whether manual focus works. If autofocus is the issue, try a different lighting condition and check for camera and lens firmware updates.
- If aperture or other parameter controls are not working as expected, try resetting the camera settings.
If the issue began after a camera firmware update, include the camera body model and firmware version as well as the lens model and firmware version when contacting support. Viltrox recommends a short video for post-update problems. The FAQ’s troubleshooting advice is general; use the current model-specific instructions for firmware installation.
Keep a Nikon Z camera-body update separate
Viltrox’s Download Center warns users to detach third-party lenses and adapters, including Viltrox products, before updating Nikon Z camera firmware. Let the camera complete its update and restart normally before reattaching the lens or adapter. This is a precaution for a camera-body update, not a step in updating lens firmware.

What to include in a support request
Send Viltrox the exact lens model and mount, camera model, lens and camera firmware versions if known, and the lens serial number. Describe what happens and which official model-specific update method you followed. Include the cable type and port used, and attach a clear photo or short video showing the connection, drive visibility, error, or focus behavior.
