Choose Dyson if the timed curling routine is useful to you
The i.d. system’s main workflow distinction is its app-connected sequence, which guides timing for wrapping, styling, and the cool shot after you create a hair profile. That can suit someone who wants a more guided curling process. It does not establish that curls will last longer or look better for everyone.
Choose Shark if you value the convertible dryer format
Shark presents FlexStyle as a dryer that twists into a multi-styler. The HD430 kit includes two curlers, two brushes, and a concentrator, but the set is not interchangeable with every other FlexStyle bundle. Consider whether this configuration fits the styles you actually create.

Compare the exact kits, not just the product names
Bundle names matter because attachments change what each system can do without an additional purchase. The Dyson Straight + Wavy US bundle listed above includes a conical barrel and smoothing tool; that list should not be generalized to every Airwrap i.d. package. Shark’s HD430 kit has brushes, while the HD435 kit instead lists two 1.25-inch curlers, an oval brush, a curl-defining diffuser, and a styling concentrator. Shark also lists model-specific add-on attachments such as curlers, diffusers, brushes, and a case; check compatibility with the precise unit you own.
- For curls, check the included barrel size and whether changing direction means changing barrels.
- For volume or smoothing, confirm the relevant round, oval, paddle, or smoothing attachment is in the box.
- If you diffuse curls, verify the selected kit includes a diffuser or that a compatible one is available for that model.
- Before ordering, match the product model number and complete kit contents on the retailer listing to the manufacturer’s description.
How do they compare for handling and performance?
In a Guardian comparison published March 24, 2026, the reviewer found the FlexStyle noisier and heavier and its buttons less comfortable than the Dyson options tested. Those are that reviewer’s handling impressions, not universal measurements or guarantees for every user. The reviewer also noted that some add-ons were not tested.

Both manufacturers make claims about heat exposure and styling, but those claims do not amount to a controlled head-to-head test. Dyson states that its product has a 110,000 rpm motor and a temperature ceiling claim of 302°F; Shark lists 1,600 watts for the cited HD430 and HD435 models. These figures describe manufacturer-published specifications or claims, not which device dries faster, causes less damage, or works better on a particular texture. The available comparison does not establish controlled results for heat damage, curl longevity, drying time, or performance across hair types.

The Guardian comparison showed Dyson bundles at approximately $650 and cited Shark bundle prices at the time it was published on March 24, 2026; those are point-in-time listings, not dependable current prices. Check the live price in your market and compare complete kits with similar attachments rather than comparing model names or a bare tool against a fuller bundle.

Which should you buy?
- Pick the Airwrap i.d. if the app-timed curling process appeals to you and the specific Dyson bundle contains the tools you plan to use.
