If you want a smaller, lighter phone with a headphone jack and expandable storage, choose the Sony Xperia 10 VIII. If you value wireless charging, a larger screen and a clearly stated seven-year software-support commitment, the Google Pixel 10a is the stronger fit. Neither phone is an evidence-backed camera, speed or battery-life winner without matched testing. Compare live prices and carrier compatibility where you live before buying.

Choose the Xperia 10 VIII if comfort, wired audio or storage matter most
Sony lists the Xperia at 153 × 72 × 8.3 mm and 168 g, compared with the Pixel 10a’s 183 g. Its 6.1-inch screen is also smaller than Google’s 6.3-inch display. Those published dimensions make the Xperia the more compact and lighter option on paper; they do not establish how either phone feels in every hand.

The Xperia includes a 3.5 mm audio jack, front stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio and LDAC support. It also supports microSDXC cards up to 2 TB, which can be useful if you keep a large local collection of photos, music or other files. Check the card’s compatibility and capacity before purchasing; Sony’s listed maximum is not a card included with the phone.
Sony lists a 120 Hz OLED display, IPX5/IPX8 water resistance, IP6X dust proofing and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Sony says the screen is approximately 50% brighter than the previous Xperia 10 model. That is Sony’s model-to-predecessor comparison, not an independent comparison with the Pixel 10a.

Choose the Pixel 10a for wireless charging and stated update longevity
Google lists Qi-certified wireless charging and a 6.3-inch display, making the Pixel the documented choice if those features are priorities. Google says a compatible 45 W USB-C PPS charger or higher, sold separately, can charge the phone to about 50% in roughly 30 minutes. That is Google’s charging claim under its stated charger condition, not a comparison with Sony.
Google explicitly promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drops updates for Pixel 10a. The Sony launch and specification sources reviewed here do not give a comparable support-period figure, so there is not enough evidence to call software-support duration a tie or to quantify a gap.
Rank #3

Google lists IP68 protection, Gorilla Glass 7i, a Tensor G4 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. These published specifications describe the Pixel, but without matched performance testing they do not prove which phone is faster in everyday use.

Camera hardware and features
Sony lists a 50 MP effective main camera that records at 12 MP, a 13 MP effective ultrawide that records at 12 MP, and an 8 MP front camera. The main rear camera has a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/1.9 aperture; Sony lists photo OIS and hybrid OIS/EIS video stabilization.
Google lists 48 MP wide and 13 MP ultrawide rear cameras, plus a 13 MP selfie camera. Its listed features include optical and electronic stabilization on the wide camera, Super Res Zoom up to 8×, Night Sight, Macro Focus, Camera Coach and photo-editing tools. Megapixel counts and software-feature lists do not show which phone takes better photos. No matched independent camera test is established here, so choose based on features you expect to use rather than a claimed camera winner.
Battery claims
Sony claims up to two days of battery life and says its battery design maintains performance after four years. Google claims more than 30 hours of battery life, or up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver. These are manufacturers’ claims with no direct shared test conditions; Google’s maximum saver figure is not ordinary mixed-use runtime. They cannot establish which phone lasts longer for your use.

How to make the final choice in your country
- Match the phone to your must-haves. Favor the Xperia for the smaller, lighter published dimensions, 3.5 mm jack or microSDXC expansion. Favor the Pixel for wireless charging, its larger display or Google’s stated seven-year update commitment.
- Check current local pricing. Sony’s announced £549 UK and €599 Europe prices and Google’s US $499 starting price are launch figures from different markets, not a present-day price comparison. Check retailers and carriers in your country for current price, stock and any plan conditions.
- Verify carrier compatibility before ordering. Check that the exact regional model supports your carrier’s network bands and services. Availability and compatibility are not established for every country by the launch announcements.
- Check the terms that affect your purchase. Confirm the return policy, warranty coverage and, for the Xperia, the microSD card you plan to use. For Pixel charging, Google says the compatible 45 W USB-C PPS charger or higher is sold separately.
Verdict by priority
- Pick the Sony Xperia 10 VIII if compact dimensions, lower listed weight, wired headphones or expandable local storage are your deciding factors.
- Pick the Google Pixel 10a if you want wireless charging, a larger screen or an explicit seven-year OS, security and Pixel Drops update commitment.
- Do not choose based on an assumed camera, performance or battery-life winner. The supplied manufacturer specifications and claims do not provide matched comparative tests.
- For value, use the live price in your market. The announced regional launch prices do not establish today’s best deal.
