To help someone with a Windows PC using Quick Assist, generate a six-digit code, have the other person enter it and approve screen sharing, then request separate approval if you need to control their PC. The person receiving help stays in charge of both permissions and can end the session at any time.
Before you start
Quick Assist is a Microsoft app for remote help between Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. Both people should open the app on their own PCs. The helper creates a code; the recipient enters it and approves the connection.
Use Quick Assist only with someone you trust. The helper can see the recipient’s screen, and can operate the PC only if the recipient separately approves a control request. Microsoft warns about tech-support scams: “Only allow a Helper to connect to your device if you initiated the interaction by contacting Microsoft Support directly.” That warning applies to Microsoft Support interactions; do not accept an unsolicited call or pop-up as a reason to grant access. How to help someone with Quick Assist

Open Quick Assist on your PC. Search for it from Start, or use the shortcut Ctrl+Windows logo key+Q.

Select Help someone.

Share the six-digit code shown in the app with the person you are helping. They must enter it on their PC; the code alone does not give you control.

Wait while the recipient submits the code, allows the connection and shares their screen. You cannot view their screen until they approve.

Use Quick Assist’s support tools if useful. Microsoft lists a laser pointer, annotations and chat.

If you need to operate the PC, select Request control. Wait for the recipient to approve the separate request before using their mouse or keyboard.

Select Leave when the help session is over.
How to let someone help you

Open Quick Assist on your PC.

Enter the helper’s six-digit code in Code from assistant, then submit it.

Review the connection and select Allow to share your screen. This approval lets the helper see your screen; it does not itself grant full control.

If the helper requests control, decide whether to approve. You can continue sharing your screen without granting that request.

Select Cancel control to stop allowing full control, or select Leave to end the session.

Install Quick Assist if it is missing
Quick Assist is available from Microsoft Store. Search for Quick Assist in the Store and choose Get or Install. The app requires Microsoft Edge WebView2. Microsoft says WebView2 should already be installed with Windows 11 or Microsoft Edge, and may install automatically the first time Quick Assist opens; that can make installation take longer.

If the PC is managed by a workplace or school, organizational policy may block Store installation. Contact the organization’s IT support person or administrator rather than trying to bypass that restriction.
If Quick Assist will not install

If Microsoft Store installation fails, Microsoft suggests resetting the Store cache by running
wsreset.exe, installing current Windows updates, and checking the PC’s time and location settings. -
If WebView2 is missing, allow the automatic installation attempt when Quick Assist opens. Installation may take additional time.

Some earlier Windows releases have had Store installation issues. Check Microsoft’s current Quick Assist support page for up-to-date compatibility guidance rather than relying on an old version-specific workaround.
When Quick Assist is not the right route
The Quick Assist web app and its macOS version are described by Microsoft for interactions with verified Microsoft Support agents, not ordinary friend-to-friend help. For a family member or friend on a Windows PC, use the Windows app workflow above. Microsoft also names Windows Remote Assistance and Easy Connect as alternatives, but its Quick Assist guidance does not provide a detailed feature comparison; check the relevant instructions for those tools if Quick Assist does not fit your situation.
