There is no universal foam-blaster ammunition standard. Match the refill to the ammo family named for your exact blaster: Hasbro explicitly limits Nerf Ultra blasters to Ultra darts, while Rival Accu-Rounds are listed as compatible with all Nerf Rival blasters. Compatibility claims for other families—and for other brands—need to be checked against the specific model’s manufacturer instructions.
Why Nerf ammo compatibility is confusing
“Nerf dart” is often used casually for several different projectile types, but the name does not mean they are interchangeable. The families covered in current product guidance include N1, Elite, Ultra, Gelfire, Hyper, and Rival. Hyper and Rival use spherical ammunition rather than dart-shaped projectiles; Gelfire uses water-hydrated rounds.
A projectile that looks close in size or appears to fit is not proof that it will feed, fire, or meet the blaster’s safety requirements. The exact model’s product page or manual is the best guide.
Compatibility by Nerf ammo family

How to check whether a refill fits your blaster
- Find the exact model. Check the blaster’s name or product number on the toy, packaging, or manual.
- Open the manufacturer’s product page or instructions. Look for the ammunition named for that model, such as Ultra dart, Rival round, or N1 dart.
- Match the refill to the stated family. Use the listed ammo type rather than relying on color, length, shape, or whether a projectile seems to fit.
- Follow the safety directions. Hasbro warns against aiming at eyes or faces and against modifying blasters or ammunition. Some cited product pages recommend eyewear.
Compatibility is not the same as safety approval
Hasbro warns on the cited product pages that other darts may not meet safety standards. For example, the Ultra One instructions say: “CAUTION: Do not aim at eyes or face. TO AVOID INJURY: Use only with official NERF darts. Other darts may not meet safety standards. Do not modify darts or dart blaster.” A projectile’s physical fit does not establish that it is approved for use.

What the published performance figures do—and don’t—tell you
Some product listings include performance specifications, but those are model-specific manufacturer claims, not compatibility tests or comparative results. Hasbro advertises the Ultra One at “up to 120 feet (36 meters)” and lists a 25-dart drum; the Ultra Three product page lists an 8-dart internal clip. The Rival Fate XXII-100 instructions list a velocity of 90 feet per second. None of these figures establishes that one ammo family works in another blaster.
