Before paying for an AI game generator, verify what it actually delivers, whether you can keep editing the result in your intended engine, what the full ongoing cost will be, and how its terms handle assets, data, and safety. “AI game generator” can describe anything from a prompt-based prototype maker to an assistant that works inside a full game editor; those tools are not interchangeable.
1. Find out what you receive—and what you can change
Ask the vendor to show a real example project created with the product, not only a polished promotional clip or a prompt-and-result demo. Establish whether the output is a playable preview, an editable source project, scripts and assets, or a hosted experience that stays on the provider’s platform.

Check whether you can revise individual elements, inspect the code and assets, export or otherwise preserve your work, and continue developing if you stop paying. A generated game may be a starting point that still needs substantial editing, iteration, and playtesting; one prompt does not establish that the result is complete, maintainable, or ready to publish.
Roblox’s Build mobile workflow, announced July 16, 2026, is described as producing a basic game starting point that creators can iterate on, playtest, share, or publish. For a contrasting product shape, Unity describes its in-editor assistant as project-aware: it can work with a project scene, drive Editor actions, and verify changes. That is different from a generator that returns a self-contained preview. Unity’s current overview is at Unity AI.
2. Match the tool to your engine and publishing target
Decide where the game needs to run before comparing products: Roblox, Unity, another engine, or a standalone web or mobile build. Then verify the tool’s supported export formats, engine versions, operating systems, target devices, and publishing route. Confirm that generated work can be modified in the destination engine rather than merely viewed or launched in the generator.

Also check practical workflow requirements: collaboration and version-control support, how files move between the AI tool and editor, and whether development depends on an active account or service. For Roblox, the documented workflow can connect an MCP-capable client to an open Studio session; Roblox also documents Rojo and Git for filesystem-based project development. Unity’s documented AI workflow requires Unity 6.0 or later. Its official CLI, MCP server, and plugin are free routes for connecting third-party agents, according to its AI tools page.
3. Calculate the real cost after the trial
Compare the expected cost of the work you plan to do, not just the advertised starting price. Check the recurring subscription, trial length and conversion, included generation credits, the price of extra credits, and any separate model subscription. Find out whether credits expire and whether generation has rate, concurrency, or seat limits. Check whether exporting, using particular models, or generating assets requires a higher tier.

Unity’s official pages currently list Personal as free, advertise a 14-day AI-tools trial on its pricing page, and show monthly AI-credit allowances for plan tiers. Unity’s AI tools FAQ says a Personal Edition assistant trial converts to a $10/month subscription; it also says the CLI, MCP server, and official plugin are free. These are details of Unity’s offerings, not a general price benchmark for AI game generators, and may change. Review Unity pricing and Unity AI before subscribing and confirm the terms shown at checkout.
4. Read the rights and data terms for the specific product
Do not assume that a paid plan automatically gives you unrestricted commercial rights to every generated component. Read the service’s terms for code, art, audio, and other assets, including ownership or licensing, attribution, output restrictions, training-data use, and what happens to your project after cancellation. If you intend to use licensed characters, brands, or other protected material, check the relevant rights-holder requirements; Roblox publishes requirements for rights holders and licensing guidance for creators.

Unity says its generated assets include metadata identifying them as AI-generated and that developers are responsible for checking usage rights and app-store declarations. Consult the Unity AI tools information and applicable terms for the details that apply to your use.
Data practices are also product-specific. Ask whether prompts, project files, and generated outputs are retained or used to improve models, how to opt out, and whether team members’ or players’ data is included. Roblox says creators can control data sharing for AI enhancement. Sharing is on by default for games, avatar items, and paid assets published on or after July 10, 2024; creators can change the default and override it during publishing. 5. Check safety and platform obligations
If you plan to publish on Roblox, using a third-party AI tool does not transfer responsibility for its output. Roblox says creators remain responsible for content delivered to players and must not bypass required safety measures. If players can interact with a model in a way that triggers a response, those interactions must be disclosed in the Content Maturity questionnaire. Roblox-served AI APIs have moderation flows, but that does not make an unrelated third-party generator compliant automatically. See Roblox’s generative AI rules.
For any target platform, identify who reviews generated content, how unsafe or infringing output is handled, and what age-related, moderation, or store disclosures apply. Treat those as launch requirements, not features to assume the generator will take care of.
6. Compare products on the same checklist

Make the same checks for every candidate, then test the exact workflow you expect to use. Ask for an example project you can inspect and confirm how it behaves in your target editor. A provider’s marketing example does not establish that typical results will be equally editable or suitable for release.
