To stop Win+C or a dedicated Copilot key from opening Copilot, change its assigned action in Windows Settings. Search Settings for Customize Copilot key, then choose a non-Copilot option if one is available. Windows does not show the same options on every PC, and changing the assignment may send the shortcut to Search rather than disable it completely.
Change what Win+C does

Press Win+I to open Settings.

Search Settings for Customize Copilot key. If you prefer to browse, go to Personalization > Text input > Customize Copilot key on keyboard. Microsoft documents this location for customizing Win+C. See Microsoft’s Keyboard shortcuts in Windows.

Select a non-Copilot action offered on your PC, such as Search, and follow any on-screen prompts. Available choices differ by configuration; not every PC offers a literal Off option. Microsoft’s Copilot settings accessibility instructions list examples including Search, Microsoft Copilot, Custom, and Copilot, while noting that options can vary.

Press Win+C to check what happens with the new assignment. Microsoft says the shortcut opens Microsoft Copilot or Microsoft 365 Copilot, depending on configuration. When Copilot is unavailable or disabled, Win+C can instead open or close Windows Search.

Change the action of a dedicated Copilot key
A physical Copilot key has its own Settings route, separate from the Win+C customization:

Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard > Customize Copilot key on keyboard.

Choose an available non-Copilot action, if offered, and follow the prompts.

Press the physical key to check its new behavior.
Microsoft notes that some Copilot keys replace the Right Ctrl or Context Menu key. The physical key’s behavior can vary by device manufacturer, keyboard layout, firmware, and hardware design. See Understand updates to the Copilot key on Windows devices.

If Copilot still opens, check its app shortcut setting
The Copilot app has a separate control for its keyboard shortcut. Open Copilot, then go to Account > Settings > Copilot Keyboard Shortcuts. Microsoft says this setting can determine whether the shortcut opens the full app or a smaller quick view. See Getting started with Copilot on Windows.

The Windows setting changes the shortcut’s assignment; the available choices and defaults depend on the device, account settings, installed applications, and—in some cases—organization settings. Microsoft also says that if no option is selected, pressing Win+C may do nothing and could prompt you to configure the shortcut. Do not assume that behavior is available on every PC.

These controls affect Windows keyboard shortcuts. They do not disable Copilot features inside Word, Excel, or other Microsoft 365 apps, which have separate controls.
