Before choosing budget AR display glasses, confirm that your exact phone, laptop, or handheld can send video to them over USB-C, then check fit, prescription support, and the exact model’s display specifications. A USB-C socket alone does not guarantee compatibility. Most glasses covered here are tethered personal displays, not standalone AR computers.
First, confirm your device can send video over USB-C
Look up the specifications for the exact phone, tablet, laptop, or handheld you plan to use—and for the particular USB-C port you will connect. Check for “DisplayPort over USB-C,” “DP Alt Mode,” “Alt DP over USB-C,” or an equivalent video-output capability. Some USB-C ports support charging and data but not video, and ports on the same device can differ.
RayNeo’s support page, “How to Use & FAQ for RayNeo Best Smart Glasses”, advises buyers to check those specification terms and consult the device maker or compatibility list if uncertain. RayNeo also says its Air glasses require a USB-C cable and do not support wireless connections. VITURE similarly advises checking the host manufacturer’s specifications in its Pro & One Series XR Glasses documentation.
For XREAL’s xbx a01 guide, the connected device needs DP video output and 5V/1A power for spatial large-screen use. That is guidance for the documented XREAL setup, not a universal power requirement for every glasses model. Confirm the requirements for the exact glasses and host before buying.

Will they work with my phone or Steam Deck?
There is no reliable yes-or-no answer based only on a device brand or USB-C connector. Check the exact model against the glasses maker’s compatibility information and verify video output on the port you will use. XREAL says Steam Deck and ROG Ally can connect directly to its glasses; treat that as XREAL-specific guidance, not a promise about every model of glasses or every handheld configuration.
Check adapters, power, and console connections
If your source outputs HDMI rather than USB-C video, verify that the glasses maker supports an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter for your exact host. XREAL’s Device Connection guidance and One user guide describe HDMI adapters for PlayStation, Xbox, and HDMI PCs. A generic USB-C adapter is not enough: confirm video direction, DP Alt Mode handling, power requirements, and compatibility with both the host and glasses.

XREAL says its glasses cannot connect directly to Nintendo Switch. Its guide describes using an XREAL Hub with an external power supply or power bank; it also suggests the Hub for simultaneous charging and use with Steam Deck or ROG Ally. These are model-specific instructions. Include a hub, adapter, or power source in your budget only if the setup you intend to use requires it, and check the exact accessory compatibility before ordering.
Make sure the fit and optics work for you
IPD—the distance between your pupils—can affect whether the image looks clear and complete. Compare your measurement with the exact model’s supported range and find out whether it offers physical or software adjustment. Even a model whose stated range includes your IPD may not feel comfortable on your face.

- YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
- ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
- 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
- LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
- WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.
| Documented model | IPD information | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| XREAL One | 59.5–70.5 mm | Range applies to this model only. |
| XREAL One Pro | M: 57–66 mm; L: 66–75 mm | Separate sizes; check which size fits you. |
| RayNeo Air 2s | 56–70 mm | Range stated in the Air 2s FAQ; not a range for all RayNeo glasses. |
XREAL notes that an IPD mismatch may produce blur, missing image edges, or eye strain. RayNeo’s Air 2s FAQ also discusses blur troubleshooting and its model-specific IPD range. When possible, try the glasses on and check whether you can see all image edges comfortably; published specifications cannot predict individual fit.
If you wear prescription lenses
Check for built-in diopter adjustment, its stated prescription limit, and a prescription insert or frame made for the exact glasses model. VITURE documents up to -5.0D myopia adjustment on its cited Pro, One, and One Lite models, and describes a separate prescription frame for stronger correction. Its documentation says frame compatibility differs for later Luma and Beast lines. XREAL also warns that prescription-frame models differ among One, One Pro, Air 2 series, and Air. Do not assume an insert fits across a brand’s product line.

Compare specifications for the exact glasses model
For video and games, compare resolution per eye and refresh rate on the specific model, then confirm your host can output the mode you want. VITURE’s published specifications list 1920 × 1080 pixels per eye for its Pro XR, One XR, and One Lite XR lines. The same documentation lists Pro XR refresh-rate options of 120, 90, or 60 Hz, and 60 Hz for One XR and One Lite XR. These figures describe the named product lines, not every VITURE generation.
Other features can be model-specific too. RayNeo’s Air 2s FAQ describes on-screen controls for refresh rate, whisper mode, and color mode, as well as its audio design. Check the current specifications and controls for the precise model rather than relying on a brand-level label or a feature from an older generation.

Interpret screen-size and review claims carefully
A claimed virtual-screen diagonal or viewing distance does not tell you whether the image edges will be visible or comfortable for you. Likewise, reviewer impressions are not universal measurements. In a comparison published August 22, 2026, Tom’s Guide described the VITURE Pro 2 as sharper and clearer in its side-by-side observations, with more adjustment options, and highlighted the X by Xreal a01+ for style and ease. Those are the publication’s subjective observations, not controlled lab results.
Know whether you are buying a display or a standalone computer
“AR glasses” is used broadly in product listings. For the models covered by the cited manufacturer instructions, expect a wearable personal display that depends on a compatible phone, computer, handheld, or other host sending video—sometimes through an adapter. Do not assume the glasses run apps or compute independently unless the exact product’s specifications explicitly say they support standalone operation.
Use price examples as dated context, not a current quote
Tom’s Guide reported starting prices of $299 for the X by Xreal a01+ and VITURE Pro 2 in its comparison published August 22, 2026. That is a dated editorial report, not confirmation of current checkout prices or prices in every region. Check the seller’s current price, regional availability, and the cost of any required adapter, power source, or prescription insert before comparing totals.
Quick Recap
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the exact host device and USB-C port you will use.
- Confirm DP Alt Mode or equivalent video output in the host specifications and the glasses maker’s compatibility information.
- Check any adapter, power, and console requirements for your specific setup.
- Compare IPD range, adjustment, frame fit, image-edge visibility, and prescription options for the exact model.
- Verify per-eye resolution, refresh rate, and other features on the precise SKU, not just the brand name.
- Decide whether you want a tethered display or a product explicitly documented as a standalone computer.
- Check current regional pricing and include only accessories your chosen connection and vision setup actually require.
