The feature can briefly block interaction while it is active, but Samsung says you can dismiss it by swiping the lock icon left or right. Does Accidental touch protection drain battery?
Samsung says the proximity sensor operates for Accidental touch protection on some models in low light. Its support documentation does not give a feature-specific battery measurement, so there is no published figure here to show how much power it uses—or to guarantee that it uses none. A sensor operating does not, by itself, establish a practically noticeable battery effect. Samsung New Zealand’s explanation of the sensor behavior also describes a low-light threshold of 10 lux or less for certain under-display sensor models; that is a technical condition, not a battery statistic.
Can it block normal use?
It can temporarily prevent screen input when the phone detects conditions associated with being in a dark place. If the protection screen appears while you need to use the phone, swipe the lock icon left or right to dismiss it, as directed in Samsung’s US instructions. Samsung notes that on some models a tiny light flicker may be visible in low light while the proximity sensor is operating; it describes this as expected behavior for the models covered by its guidance.
Why does my phone say “Accidental touch protection”?
The feature is designed to reduce unintended taps when a Galaxy phone is in a pocket, bag, or another dark place. Samsung Canada says it is enabled by default on most Galaxy phones, but the setting and on-screen behavior can differ by model, region, and software version. The screen may still light briefly if the device senses movement or contact, even when protection is on, according to Samsung Canada.

How do I stop my Galaxy phone from waking or responding in a pocket?
If the screen wakes or registers touches in a pocket, check the related wake and touch settings as well as Accidental touch protection. Samsung’s menu paths may differ by device and software version.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures, then turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake if you do not want those actions to wake the screen.
- If pocket touches continue, open Settings > Display, turn off Touch sensitivity if enabled, and make sure Accidental touch protection is enabled.
- If a Galaxy Z Flip’s fingerprint sensor is being triggered accidentally, check Fingerprint always on and adjust or turn it off if appropriate for your use.

If you use a case, Samsung Canada notes that a flip-cover or wallet-style case can help keep the screen covered in a pocket or bag; choose one made for your exact Galaxy model.
