Phones, laptops, tablets, handhelds, and other devices can connect directly to XREAL display glasses when their USB-C port supports DisplayPort video output (DP Alt Mode). A USB-C connector that handles only charging or data is not enough. XREAL One guidance also specifies that the host provide 5V/1A. The exact connection and available features depend on the glasses model and the device’s specific configuration.

How to check whether your device will connect

  1. Identify the glasses model. XREAL One and ROG XREAL R1 have model-specific guidance, so do not assume their adapter paths or feature support are identical.
  2. Check the exact device and port specifications. Look for DisplayPort video output over USB-C, often called DisplayPort Alt Mode or DP Alt Mode. Thunderbolt may also be relevant for some computers. If the specification is unclear, ask the device manufacturer or XREAL support.
  3. For XREAL One, verify power as well as video. XREAL says the device interface must support DP video output and provide 5V/1A. The glasses have no built-in battery and draw power through the connection. See XREAL One connection guidance.
  4. Check the feature you want separately. A working picture does not guarantee every spatial or display feature. Availability can vary by device model and system version, and refresh-rate capability depends on the host’s output.

XREAL’s guidance summarizes the direct-connection requirement this way: “To utilize a spatial large-screen display via XREAL One series glasses, your device interface must support the DP video output protocol and provide 5V/1A power supply.”

Phones, laptops, and devices XREAL names as examples

XREAL’s lists are examples, not blanket certification for every model, regional variant, port, or software configuration. Confirm the exact host device and glasses generation before relying on a listed category.

  • Samsung Galaxy S series
  • iPad Pro (4th generation)
  • Windows laptops with USB-C video output and MacBook Pro
  • Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED

Examples in ROG XREAL R1 documentation

  • iPhone 15 and 16 series
  • Android phones that support DP Alt Mode
  • ROG Strix and Zephyrus laptops
  • MacBook Pro and MacBook Air
  • Windows laptops supporting Thunderbolt or USB-C DP Alt Mode
  • ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and Lenovo Legion Go

These examples come from the ROG XREAL R1 documentation and apply to R1 guidance; they should not be treated as a universal compatibility list for all XREAL glasses.

What to do if the device has HDMI or DisplayPort instead

An HDMI or DisplayPort source needs compatible conversion hardware or a glasses-specific dock. The correct connection path depends on the glasses model; a passive USB-C-to-HDMI cable is not a reliable assumption because the video conversion and power arrangement must suit the glasses.

  • SIMULTANEOUS USE AND CHARGE: USB-C to AR Glasses Adapter Mini supports connecting your device to USB C AR glasses and USB-C Portable monitors while powering it up, works with Switch, Switch OLED, Steam Deck, Rog Ally, DJI RC 2 and smartphones, not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, Meta Quest, PICO, HTC Vive VR headsets and Epson AR glasses.

  • SMARTPHONE USAGE REMINDER: Verify your phone’s Type-C port supports DisplayPort video output before purchase. Due to the limited compatibility of the MINI chip in the HUB when iPhone 15 to 17 series paired with some AR glasses may show screen flicker. We recommend that users of iPhone 15 to 17 series purchase our higher-compatibility updated hubs. Search for ASIN B0G59TSXFP or B0GD1WS14Q on Amazon.
  • AR GLASSES USAGE REMINDER: For no sound or no video issues on Xreal AR glasses, switch the glasses to DisplayPort Alt Mode following the official manual, not for HDMI-only devices like PS4, PS5 and Xbox, search ASIN B0DSZXZSTX for our dedicated HDMI to USB-C hub, do not use two hubs together.
  • Viture Beast AR GLASSES USAGE REMINDER: Please do not update Viture Beast to a system version released after June 2026, as this may cause the HUB to be incompatible with Viture Beast. If you have already upgraded, please roll back the system to the May version (0.01.024_20260521).

XREAL One

XREAL describes HDMI-to-USB-C adapters for HDMI sources such as PlayStation, Xbox, and computers. Its tutorial says Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Switch OLED require the XREAL Hub. Follow the model’s documented setup and confirm that the adapter supports the needed conversion and power arrangement; the available guidance does not certify every third-party adapter. XREAL One connection guidance.

ROG XREAL R1

The ROG Control Dock accepts HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4 and connects to the glasses over USB-C. R1 documentation names desktop computers, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch as dock use cases; it says to use the Switch with its original dock. ROG XREAL R1 documentation.

When the XREAL Hub or Beam Pro is useful

XREAL Hub

XREAL lists the Hub for Switch and Switch OLED, Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED, ROG Ally, and smartphones with DP-enabled USB-C, paired with listed XREAL glasses. It is described as enabling charging while using the glasses. Check the current compatibility details for your exact source and glasses model rather than assuming the Hub is required for every setup. XREAL Hub information.

Beam Pro

Beam Pro is an optional companion device, not a universal requirement for ordinary screen mirroring from a compatible phone or laptop. XREAL’s US Shop describes its right USB-C port as a standard DP Alt video-output port and names Air, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, and Air 2 Ultra as compatible glasses. Its product information also describes spatial experiences with Air, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, One, and One Pro, and full-featured 6DoF support with Air 2 Ultra. Those are Beam Pro companion-use claims, not a universal list of devices that connect directly to glasses. Beam Pro information from XREAL’s US Shop.

Otherwise, the display may operate intermittently or experience screen blackouts. Please note the power consumption of the monitor.
  • Note the Source Device Interface: This HUB is used for Switch, PS4/5, XBox, TV Box, and other video output devices need to make sure your device has HDMI video output port, if there is no HDMI video output port but has USB C video output port, we recommend using a USB-C to USB-C hub. Features and performance can vary by host

UltraWide mode on XREAL One

XREAL’s One-series feature table lists UltraWide mode for Android devices with desktop mode (such as DeX), iPad, Android tablets, Windows, MacBook, Windows handhelds, and Steam Deck. It marks UltraWide unavailable for Android without desktop mode, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation. XREAL cautions that features can vary by device model and system version, so verify the specific setup in its One-series guidance.

Refresh rate on ROG XREAL R1

R1 documentation says its 240Hz capability depends on the host’s output, display settings, and content; its troubleshooting guidance says phones and Switch may be limited to 60Hz. These details are specific to R1 and should not be generalized to other XREAL glasses. ROG XREAL R1 documentation.
