No. When a game leaves the Xbox Game Pass library, your subscription no longer gives you access to it—even if your subscription is active and the game is installed. To keep playing, you need to buy the game separately, if it is available for your platform and region.
What happens when a Game Pass game leaves?
Game Pass provides access to a changing library, not permanent ownership of every game you download. Xbox says subscribers can access library games until their subscription is canceled or expires, or until a game leaves the library. Either condition ends the subscription entitlement for that title. Xbox’s Game Pass FAQ explains the access terms.
Installing a game does not preserve access after its departure. The game may remain on your device, but you will need an active entitlement to launch and play it. An active subscription alone is not enough once the title is no longer in the library.
How to keep playing after a game leaves
Xbox’s stated option is to buy the game. Check the listing for the exact title and platform you play on; a purchase for a different platform or edition may not provide the access you need. Xbox’s Game Pass catalog includes a “Leaving soon” collection and directs subscribers to buy departing games to keep playing.

The catalog currently advertises member discounts of up to 20% on games leaving the library. That is a general, conditional offer—not a guarantee that every departing title qualifies or that a particular discount is available. Check the individual game’s listing for its current price, platform, edition, and any applicable discount.
Check whether your game is leaving
- Open the current Xbox Game Pass catalog and look in “Leaving soon” for the title.
- Confirm the listing applies to your region, subscription plan, and platform. Xbox notes that catalog titles and availability vary by time, region, plan, and platform.
- If you plan to buy the game, check its store listing before it leaves. Verify that the edition and platform match the one you play, then review the current price and whether a member discount applies.
- If you do not want to buy it, plan to finish before its departure date. Catalog entries and offers can change, so an old departure list may no longer be current.
What about saves?
The Xbox FAQ and catalog explain subscription access and buying a departing game; they do not establish what happens to a specific game’s save data after it leaves Game Pass. If you expect to return to a title later, check that game’s official support information for save retention and any requirements for continuing on the same platform or transferring progress.
