If the screen still wakes, turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures. These are separate functions: the display can light briefly even when accidental-touch protection is active.
What Accidental touch protection does—and what it does not do
Samsung describes Accidental touch protection as a way to keep the screen inactive in dark places such as a pocket or bag, reducing unintended calls, messages, and other screen interactions. It does not guarantee that the display will never light. Movement or contact can trigger features such as Lift to wake or Double tap to wake while protection is on. A lit screen alone does not prove the protection has failed; check whether the phone actually registered unwanted touches or became accessible.
Samsung says the feature is enabled by default on most Galaxy phones, but it is not available on every model and is typically unsupported on tablets. Turn on the setting and check for wake gestures
- Enable protection. Open Settings > Display and turn on Accidental touch protection. If you do not see it, search Settings for the name and check your phone’s model-specific manual; some Galaxy devices do not support it.
- Disable unwanted wake gestures. Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures. If the phone wakes too readily in a pocket or bag, turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake (the exact label may vary).
- Keep a secure screen lock. A PIN, pattern, or fingerprint can prevent someone—or an accidental touch—from accessing the phone if the display lights. A screen lock does not stop the display from lighting.

If the protection lock appears while you are using the phone
In a dark place, the feature may show a lock icon to indicate that touch input is being blocked. Swipe the lock icon left or right to dismiss the protection and use the screen.
Separate a touch-screen problem from a pocket-setting problem
If the screen misses touches, responds erratically, or stays unresponsive during normal use, the cause may be the touchscreen or an accessory rather than Accidental touch protection.

- Check for dust or debris, air bubbles, peeling edges, or stacked screen films. Remove a protector that is peeling or has debris underneath it.
- Moisture, gloves, and third-party accessories can affect touch response. Dry the screen and test without potentially interfering accessories.
- If you use a suitable screen protector, try Settings > Display > Touch sensitivity if that option is available. Samsung cautions that it may be unavailable on some models and can make the screen too responsive when enabled without a protector.
- Restart the phone for minor touch problems. If the screen remains faulty, is damaged, or does not respond, contact Samsung support or service rather than treating the pocket-protection setting as the repair.

Galaxy Z Flip: check fingerprint activation separately
If the issue is an accidental fingerprint touch on a Galaxy Z Flip, search Settings for Fingerprint always on. Samsung says users with a registered fingerprint can turn this off or choose supported cover-screen or main-screen options. The available choices depend on the model.

When a case can help
A compatible flip or wallet-style case can add a physical barrier over the screen in a pocket or bag, but it does not repair a missing or malfunctioning setting. Confirm that any case fits your exact Galaxy model and that its cover suits how you use the phone. Samsung lists this as an optional way to help prevent accidental touches in its accidental-touch prevention guidance.

Samsung UK’s guidance dated August 25, 2020, says a small, pixel-sized light flicker can be normal proximity-sensor operation on certain models when the display is dark and Always On Display is set to “Tap to show.” The listed examples are Galaxy A91, Galaxy A90 5G, Galaxy Note10 series, Galaxy S20 series, and Galaxy Z Flip.
