A used PlayStation copy is another route to investigate. Confirm the exact edition and region, inspect the disc condition, and check whether it is compatible with your console. A marketplace listing should provide enough detail to identify the item; ask the seller if it does not.
Can you buy the original GTA on GOG or Rockstar?
The GOG page for the 1997 game is a Dreamlist request, not a product page offering it for sale. You should not treat that page as proof that the game is currently available to buy on GOG: GOG Dreamlist: Grand Theft Auto.
