Which agreement should you check?
A game can involve several separate agreements: the publisher’s end-user license agreement (EULA) or terms, the console or platform terms, and an account or service agreement. The relevant contract depends on which company and service are involved in the issue. For example, PlayStation’s U.S. terms address disputes about PlayStation Services, PlayStation Content, and devices used to access that content; Epic’s terms address Epic services; and Warner Bros. Games’ cited EULA concerns use of its game. PlayStation Terms of Service · Epic Games Terms of Service · Warner Bros. Games EULA

Look for the agreement in the game, launcher, account portal, store, or the company’s official legal pages. Note the company named as the contracting party and the product or service named in the agreement. A platform’s terms may govern the platform account or services even when the game itself has a separate publisher agreement.
How to search the agreement
- Open the complete agreement. Prefer the official page or document for your location and the specific service. If a sign-up or purchase flow links to terms, follow that link and note when you accepted them.
- Search for relevant terms. Use your browser’s find function or document search for “arbitration,” “dispute resolution,” “binding,” “class action,” “waiver,” “opt out,” and “notice.” Search results help locate relevant text; they do not replace reading it.
- Read the whole dispute section. Review definitions and nearby subheadings, including exceptions, notice steps, deadlines, and any incorporated rules. A heading or isolated sentence may not show the full process.
- Record the agreement details. Save or note the URL, date, version if shown, and the acceptance event. If you are assessing an earlier dispute, the live terms may not be the version you accepted.
Section numbers can change. In versions checked on October 7, 2026, Roblox placed dispute resolution in section 13, PlayStation in section 14, and Activision in section 4. Use the search terms rather than relying on those numbers. Roblox Terms of Use · PlayStation Terms of Service · Activision Terms of Use

What to check in the clause
Who and what it covers
Check the definition of “Dispute,” the companies or people covered, and the products or services included. Look for limits based on residence, region, consumer status, or age. For instance, Roblox labels its arbitration agreement as applying to U.S. residents, while Activision describes different governing terms by region. PlayStation’s cited page is specifically its U.S. terms. Do not assume that a clause on one country’s page applies to players elsewhere.
Exceptions and court options
Look for claims that can remain outside arbitration, such as individual small-claims actions, government enforcement actions, or other specified claims. The wording varies by agreement. Epic lists exceptions to its arbitration requirement, including individual small-claims actions, certain government enforcement actions, and specified claims. PlayStation and Warner Bros. Games also describe exceptions, including small-claims provisions. Read the text to see precisely which exception applies and under what conditions. Preconditions and process
Some agreements require informal notice or negotiation before arbitration or court proceedings. Check what the notice must contain, how and where it must be sent, how long the parties must wait, and which arbitration provider or rules apply. PlayStation’s terms describe a notice-and-negotiation step; Activision requires a compliant notice and at least 30 days of informal negotiation; Roblox requires mandatory informal dispute resolution before arbitration. These are requirements in the respective agreements, not a universal process.
Opt-out terms
If the agreement offers an opt-out, read the exact deadline trigger, delivery method, required contents, eligibility, and any effect on prior agreements. The examples differ: PlayStation provides for written notice within 30 days of accepting its agreement; Activision describes a 30-day opt-out by email, with the period triggered by purchase or, if there was no purchase, first access or use and acceptance; Warner Bros. Games gives an individual consumer 30 days from first acceptance of its EULA. These are agreement-specific deadlines, not a general 30-day rule. Follow the applicable agreement’s current text and keep evidence of any notice sent. PlayStation Terms of Service · Activision Terms of Use · Warner Bros. Games EULA

How to assess more than one agreement
If a dispute involves both a game publisher and a platform, check each agreement rather than assuming one controls everything. Compare the relevant details:
| What to compare | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Contracting party and scope | Publisher, platform, store, or account entity; products and services covered. |
| Geography and user status | Country or residence limits, consumer status, and any age or guardian language. |
| Version and acceptance | Date or version, how and when you accepted, and whether older terms or amendments matter. Roblox’s terms say a court will determine which version a user agreed to before arbitration begins. |
| Coverage and exceptions | Definition of a dispute, small-claims provisions, excluded claims, and any class-action waiver. |
| Procedure | Notice method and contents, informal negotiation period, arbitration provider, location, and rules. |
| Opt-out | Eligibility, deadline trigger, required information, delivery route, and whether it affects prior agreements. |
Keep a copy of the terms you accepted if available. Roblox expressly notes that a court determines which version of its terms a user agreed to; a current web page alone may not establish the historical agreement for a particular account.

What a search can—and cannot—tell you
A search can show whether an agreement contains arbitration language and help you locate its conditions. It cannot, by itself, determine whether that agreement governs your particular dispute or whether the clause is enforceable. Those questions can depend on the agreement, the facts, the jurisdiction, and applicable law. This guide explains how to locate and read terms, not how to resolve an individual legal claim.
The examples above are official U.S. terms checked on October 7, 2026; they are not a survey of every game or a conclusion about any player’s contract. Terms, section numbers, deadlines, and procedures may change. Check the official agreement for the specific game or service and your location.
