To find a lost AirTag or compatible tracking card, open Apple’s Find My app, tap Items, and select the item registered to your Apple Account. Use its map location or last-known location, and turn on Notify When Found if it cannot currently be located. A card works with Find My only if it explicitly supports Apple’s network and was added to your account before it went missing.
Find a registered item in Find My

Open Find My on an Apple device and tap Items.

Select the missing AirTag or compatible third-party item. If it can currently be located, Find My shows it on a map with a location and timestamp. The location updates when the item connects to the Find My network, so the map may show a previous location rather than where the item is now. See Apple’s instructions for locating an AirTag or other item on iPhone.

If Find My cannot locate it, check the last-known place and time, then turn on Notify When Found. Allow notifications from Find My on your device so you can receive the alert if the item is located again.

If the item is nearby and supports sound playback, tap Play Sound. The control will not appear for an item that cannot play a sound.

Tap Directions to open Maps to the current or last-known location. Treat the pin as a place to investigate, not proof that the item is still there.
What to do when the item is nearby
For a nearby AirTag, a supported iPhone may offer the Find flow, with directional and approximate-distance guidance. This precision-finding experience is not guaranteed for every third-party card. Sound playback and other controls also depend on the item.

Will a tracking card work with Apple Find My?
Only if the manufacturer explicitly identifies it as compatible with Apple Find My. A card described merely as a Bluetooth tracker is not necessarily part of Apple’s Find My network. The card also needs to be registered to your Apple Account before it is lost.

Open Find My, tap Items, then tap the add control.

Choose Add Other Item or the compatible accessory option shown, then follow the on-screen steps to finish registration.
Apple’s third-party item setup instructions advise contacting the manufacturer if it is unclear whether an item supports Find My. Before buying a card, check the maker’s current specifications for Find My compatibility, setup and account-transfer requirements, dimensions, sound capability, and battery or charging arrangement. Those details vary by product; compatibility alone does not establish that every Find My feature is available.

If someone finds your item
Find My may let you mark a missing item as lost and follow on-screen steps to display contact information for a finder. Check the controls available for your specific item. Apple also distinguishes sharing an AirTag’s location from marking it as lost: sharing its location does not itself mark it as lost. See Apple’s guidance for locating a lost Apple device or AirTag.
For an AirTag or Find My network accessory, Apple’s Find Lost Item feature may let you create a temporary link that shows an approximate location. Availability varies by country and region. Apple describes the feature in its Find Lost Item instructions.

Privacy and unwanted-tracking alerts
AirTag and Find My network accessories include protections against unwanted tracking. Apple says not to use them to track people or property that does not belong to you. If your device alerts you that an unknown compatible tracker is moving with you, follow Apple’s instructions for an unwanted-tracking alert; available actions include playing a sound or using Find Nearby when supported.
What Find My can and cannot show

The Items tab is the starting point for AirTags and registered compatible third-party items.

Find My may show a current location or only the last location and time it received. Notify When Found can alert you if the item is located again.

Sound, directions, and precision-finding options depend on the item and device. Do not assume a third-party card has the same controls as an AirTag.

Apple provides a separate lost-device flow through Find Devices on iCloud.com for Apple devices. Its guidance places AirTag and Find My network accessory location in the Find My app on Apple devices, so do not rely on iCloud.com to locate a card or AirTag.
