Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo improve a remastered PC game’s performance, first set your display resolution and frame-rate target, then test the game’s supported upscaler and reduce demanding effects selectively. The right choices depend on your hardware, the game, and whether you value smoothness, image detail, low latency, or visual effects most.
1. Set your resolution and frame-rate target
Choose the resolution you intend to play at and a frame-rate limit your PC and display can reasonably sustain. Higher resolution and graphics settings can improve image quality while lowering frame rate; the balance depends on the game and system. Bethesda notes that display resolution and frame-rate limit may affect performance in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (Bethesda Support).
If performance is inconsistent, try a lower output resolution or a more achievable frame-rate cap before changing many visual options. Make one adjustment at a time so you can tell which change helped.
2. Try a supported upscaler
If the game struggles at your chosen output resolution, check its graphics menu for an upscaler such as DLSS, FSR, or XeSS. These technologies render the game at a lower resolution and reconstruct an image for the selected output resolution. Quality modes generally favor detail, while faster modes favor performance; exact options and results vary by title and hardware.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Use only an option supported by both the game and your GPU. For example, Bethesda documents DLSS, FSR, and XeSS options for Oblivion Remastered; that does not mean every remaster or graphics card supports all three. Microsoft’s Automatic Super Resolution overview describes a separate Windows feature that upscales from a lower render resolution and is limited to supported devices and games.
When comparing upscalers, keep the output resolution and scene consistent. Consider compatibility, image quality, frame-rate impact, and whether frame generation is a separate option. Official documentation does not establish a universal best upscaler across remasters.

3. Reduce demanding effects selectively
Ray tracing and other advanced effects can be costly, but their performance impact depends on the game and the hardware. Rather than lowering every quality setting, test the effects that are most likely to affect the bottleneck you are seeing.
If the GPU is the limiting factor
Try lowering GPU-intensive options, such as ray tracing where available, or use a supported upscaler. Check the game’s own documentation and graphics menu: implementations differ, and a setting may behave differently across titles.

If CPU use is high and GPU use is low
CPU-heavy settings may be more relevant than lowering texture or rendering quality. In its guidance for The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian suggests testing options such as ray tracing or crowd density for the specific case where CPU load is high and GPU load is low (Obsidian Support). That diagnosis is not a universal rule for every remaster.
Also check how the game handles unsupported hardware. Bethesda says Oblivion Remastered defaults to software ray tracing when a graphics card is unsupported, so do not assume that a ray-tracing option always means the GPU is using the same implementation.

4. Consider frame generation only after the base game runs well
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames and can raise the reported frame rate, but it is an optional feature with game- and hardware-specific support. It does not make an underperforming base experience equivalent to one that is already running smoothly.
CD PROJEKT RED recommends a baseline minimum of 60 FPS before enabling FSR 3 frame generation in Cyberpunk 2077 (CD PROJEKT RED Support). This is guidance for that implementation, not a threshold that applies to every remaster. Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered documentation also lists DLSS and FSR frame-generation options for its game.

5. Check which GPU Windows assigns to the game
If your PC has more than one graphics processor, confirm that Windows is using the intended GPU for the game. Microsoft documents how to set an app’s graphics performance preference in Windows (Microsoft Support). This is especially worth checking on systems with integrated and discrete graphics.
Windows 11 also offers optimizations for windowed games in supported configurations. Treat this as a compatibility-dependent option to check, not a guaranteed performance boost; Microsoft’s guide to optimizations for windowed games explains the feature and its settings.
6. Tune with a repeatable comparison
- Choose the outcome you want. Decide whether smooth frame rate, sharper image quality, lower latency, or visual effects matter most.
- Use the same scene or gameplay segment. Compare changes in a repeatable situation rather than judging settings in different areas of the game.
- Change one setting group at a time. Start with resolution and frame-rate limit, then test upscaling, demanding effects, and optional frame generation.
- Keep changes that improve your chosen outcome. If a change does not help, revert it before testing another option.
- Recheck support after game updates. Patches can change menus, feature support, and behavior; consult current documentation for the specific game.
There is no reliable cross-remaster FPS gain to promise from any single setting. Official support pages describe specific games and configurations, not a universal benchmark. Use your own system’s monitoring and a consistent scene to identify whether the limit is primarily the GPU or CPU, then prioritize settings that address it.
