Sometimes—but “remaster” does not guarantee that a game includes every original DLC pack, mode, or online feature. What carries over depends on the specific title, edition, and platform. Check the publisher’s content list for the exact version before buying.
What does “all original content” mean in a remaster?
There is no universal checklist. A remaster might keep the original campaign and level design, bundle selected DLC, update multiplayer, or omit or alter particular features. It can also preserve some old gameplay quirks while improving presentation. Treat “remastered” as a description of a release, not a promise that every original item and service is included unchanged.

Official examples show how much the details can vary:
- Dark Souls Remastered: Bandai Namco lists the original game and the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. FromSoftware says the original level design remains, while online sessions changed from up to four players to up to six with a dedicated server. Bandai Namco’s game page and FromSoftware’s release announcement describe these details.
- Alan Wake Remastered: Remedy says the release includes the original game and both story episodes, The Signal and The Writer. Its FAQ also notes that some original gameplay frustrations, such as Alan tiring while running, were retained. Remedy’s FAQ covers the included episodes and gameplay details.
- Command & Conquer Remastered Collection: EA says it includes all three expansion packs and describes its multiplayer as rebuilt. The collection also lists a modernized UI, map editor, gallery material, and remastered music; some content may require gameplay to unlock. See EA’s product page and EA’s developer answers.
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2: Activision lists original game modes, local two-player play, online multiplayer, and leaderboards. Its FAQ distinguishes offline play from features that require an internet connection or subscription. Check Activision’s FAQ for access requirements.
These titles illustrate different approaches; they do not establish how often remasters include DLC or preserve multiplayer across the games industry.

Does a remaster include the original DLC?
Sometimes. Confirm each expansion or DLC episode by name in the publisher’s listing rather than assuming that “complete,” “remastered,” or a similar label means every add-on is bundled. For example, Dark Souls Remastered includes Artorias of the Abyss, Alan Wake Remastered includes The Signal and The Writer, and EA says Command & Conquer Remastered Collection includes all three expansion packs.
Also check whether listed content is available immediately. EA notes that some Command & Conquer collection content may require gameplay to unlock.

Is the original multiplayer still available?
It may be retained, changed, rebuilt, or subject to different limits. Dark Souls Remastered raises the stated online-session maximum from four players to six. EA describes Command & Conquer Remastered Collection’s multiplayer as rebuilt, rather than simply copied unchanged from the original.
“Includes multiplayer” does not guarantee that online play will remain available indefinitely. EA’s terms say online features may be retired with notice. Internet access, platform subscriptions, patches, and publisher-operated services can also affect access. Local multiplayer is a separate feature: Activision lists local two-player play for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, alongside online modes and leaderboards.

What to check before buying a remaster
- Open the listing for the exact platform and edition. A game’s name alone may not identify which content or features your version includes.
- Verify DLC and expansions by name. Look for the specific add-ons you want, and note any unlock conditions.
- Check the modes you care about. Confirm campaign or other modes, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, and any stated player limit separately.
- Read the access requirements. Check whether online features need an internet connection, subscription, account, or current publisher service. Do not treat an online feature description as a guarantee of permanent server availability.
- Confirm platform-specific details. If cross-play or other platform differences matter, look for them in the official page or store listing; do not assume they are included.
