Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the Galaxy Tab S12 if you want a tablet for touch-first apps, reading, handwriting or sketching, and value the included S Pen. Choose a Googlebook if your everyday work is laptop-first: its built-in keyboard and haptic trackpad are ready for sustained typing and pointer use. Samsung’s tablet can add a keyboard and DeX, but that does not make every laptop workflow or specialized app available.
These are different kinds of devices, not direct substitutes with a universal winner. The S12 series comprises Android tablets; Googlebook is a lineup of premium laptops. The right choice depends on the software you need and how you work.
What’s the practical difference?
A Galaxy Tab S12 starts as a touchscreen tablet running Android 17 with Samsung One UI 9. Samsung includes an S Pen, supports multitasking with up to three apps side by side, and offers DeX for a more desktop-like interface. A compatible keyboard is optional.
A Googlebook starts as a laptop, with an integrated backlit keyboard and haptic trackpad across the lineup, according to Google. Google announced five models made with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Acer’s is the only model Google identifies as a convertible, so do not assume every Googlebook folds into tablet mode or supports a pen.

Which should you choose for your work?
Choose the Galaxy Tab S12 for pen, touch, and tablet use
- Handwriting and sketching: The S Pen is included with both S12 models, making the tablet a more direct fit for notes, annotation, and drawing than a laptop configuration whose pen support has not been established.
- Reading and touch-first apps: The tablet form is suited to holding, tapping, and using Android apps directly. Samsung says the S12 works as a standalone tablet with a Google account and apps; owning a Galaxy phone is not a requirement.
- Flexible productivity: Samsung says DeX and side-by-side multitasking support work across the series. These features can help with tablet-based work, but Samsung cautions that some specialized software may still require a laptop.
- Choosing screen size: The S12+ is the smaller, lighter tablet option; the Ultra provides more screen area for drawing or keeping work visible. Both remain tablets, and neither includes the separately sold keyboard.
Choose a Googlebook for laptop-first work
- Long typing sessions: The keyboard is built in, rather than an extra accessory to buy and carry.
- Pointer-heavy tasks: The integrated haptic trackpad is a more natural starting point for workflows that rely on precise cursor control.
- Desktop-oriented software: Check the exact applications and versions you rely on against the requirements for the specific Googlebook model. The category announcement does not establish compatibility with every specialized program.
- Convertible use: Google calls Acer’s initial Googlebook the lineup’s only convertible. Its announcement does not specify stylus support or every detail of its tablet mode, so confirm those features for the exact model before buying.

The figures above are not a like-for-like configuration comparison. Samsung’s prices are US launch prices for the tablets, and the keyboard is an additional purchase. Google’s $899 is a lineup starting price; its announcement does not provide a complete model-by-model configuration table. Check current prices and the exact configuration available in your country before comparing totals.
Samsung announced US availability for the S12 Ultra and S12+ from October 7, 2026. Google said US retail availability for Googlebook began October 4, with Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia following October 5. Availability and offers can change by country and retailer.

What does Googlebook offer that a Galaxy Tab with a keyboard does not?
The clearest difference is the default input setup: Googlebook has a built-in keyboard and trackpad, while Samsung’s compatible keyboards are separately sold accessories. That matters if you type for hours, use pointer-driven applications, or want a laptop ready to work without attaching a cover keyboard.
The operating systems and app environments also differ. The S12 runs Android 17 with One UI 9; Googlebook is a laptop category with model-specific configurations. Neither category label alone guarantees compatibility with a particular professional app. Verify the app vendor’s supported operating systems and the exact Googlebook model before choosing based on specialized software.

Google lists Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite processor options, at least 16 GB of RAM across the lineup and up to 32 GB on some models. Those are portfolio-level statements: Google’s announcement does not map each processor or memory capacity to all five manufacturers’ models. Likewise, it does not establish that every model includes every announced feature or promotional bundle.

At launch in the US, Samsung listed the S12+ at $1,199.99 and the Ultra at $1,399.99; both were announced as available from October 7, 2026. Google announced Googlebook lineup pricing starting at $899. What to verify before buying
- App compatibility: Check the software vendor’s current requirements, especially for specialized work that may require a laptop.
- Exact Googlebook configuration: Confirm processor, memory, display, battery information, price, and included offers for the manufacturer’s model you intend to buy; Google’s launch figures are portfolio-wide.
- Keyboard and pen: Confirm the Samsung keyboard model is compatible with your S12 and budget for it separately. For Googlebook, verify whether the particular model is convertible and whether it supports any pen input you need.
- Local availability and terms: Check retailer pricing, country availability, and any subscription offer’s eligibility and duration.
