Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition is the best first stop if you want another Larian-made RPG built around turn-based party tactics, environmental combat and co-op. If tabletop-style rules and careful positioning matter more than matching BG3’s studio or feel, consider Solasta II—but it is currently a PC game in Early Access, not a finished release.

“Games like Baldur’s Gate 3” can mean different things: tactical combat, a party of companions, consequential storytelling, tabletop rules or multiplayer. No single recommendation here reproduces all of BG3, so the best fit depends on which of those you want most.

How to choose a game like Baldur’s Gate 3

Compare games by the parts of BG3 you want to keep, rather than expecting a clone. The key distinctions are:

  • Combat: Is it turn-based, and does positioning or the environment shape a fight?
  • Party and story: Do you control a group, and how central are companions and player choices?
  • Rules: Does the game adapt a tabletop system, or use its own character and combat rules?
  • Co-op and availability: Can you play with others, on which platforms, and is the game fully released?

Best overall pick: Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition

For a BG3 player seeking another tactical party RPG from Larian, Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition is the strongest fit. Bandai Namco describes a reactive, narrative-driven sandbox with six Origin Characters and a party of four. Its listed features include turn-based combat, character building, multiplayer and elemental interactions with the environment.

Larian’s official game catalog includes both Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3, and describes Divinity: Original Sin 2 as a tactical RPG with co-op for up to three other players. That shared developer and emphasis on party tactics make it a natural next game, but not a rules or story duplicate: it has its own setting and character systems.

Why it suits tactical party-RPG fans

  • Turn-based fights: You have time to plan party actions rather than reacting in real time.
  • Environmental play: Elemental combinations make the surroundings part of combat.
  • Party and co-op: The publisher lists a party of four and multiplayer; Larian describes co-op for up to three other players.

Those shared traits are the reason to choose it—not an assumption that its tone, production or narrative treatment will match BG3. The experience is distinct, so go in expecting another Larian RPG rather than a direct continuation.

Important: Solasta II is in Early Access

The developer’s FAQ currently lists Solasta II as a PC game available through Steam in Early Access. It says multiplayer supports groups of up to four and estimates the current Early Access experience at around 10–15 hours, depending on playstyle. These are status details that can change; check the developer’s page for the latest information before choosing it. The FAQ says other platform plans will be communicated later and targets version 1.0 about a year after Early Access begins, so do not treat it as a finished, broadly available release.

Who should choose it

Pick Solasta II when tactical positioning and a tabletop-rules foundation are your priorities, and you are comfortable playing an evolving Early Access game on PC. If you want a completed experience now, that status makes Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition the safer recommendation of these two.

Other familiar names—and why they need a closer look

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Wasteland 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Pillars of Eternity and Solasta: Crown of the Magister are often raised as neighboring options for RPG fans. They may appeal for different reasons, but a name alone does not establish that a game shares BG3’s turn structure, party dynamics, rules, platforms or current edition. Check each game’s official product information for those specifics before treating it as a direct match.
