Grok Automations can take repeat information-gathering, summaries, and reminders off your prompt-by-prompt to-do list: describe the job once, choose when it should run, and review the result when it arrives. That may make recurring work easier to remember, but xAI has not published evidence that the feature measurably reduces stress, saves a particular amount of time, or improves mental well-being.

Here’s how Grok’s scheduled tasks work, how to set up a useful first automation, and where to keep human review in the loop.

What Grok Automations can do

xAI’s July 16, 2026 announcement describes Automations on grok.com and in the Grok apps for iOS and Android. You write instructions for a job, select a mode and schedule, then save it. Grok can run the job on a schedule or, for eligible users, when an incoming email matches criteria you set. xAI describes the feature this way: “Describe a job once and Grok runs it on a schedule or when an email arrives, then reports back.”

Each scheduled run uses the same instructions as a fresh request with current data. Grok opens a conversation for the run and saves the result in run history. You can choose email notification, app notification, both, or neither; you can also start a run manually with “Run now.” xAI says automations can be paused, resumed, edited, or deleted.

It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)

  • [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.

Examples of useful repeat jobs

Good candidates have a clear output and are genuinely recurring. Examples include a short morning brief or a reminder—both types of use xAI itself mentions. You might also ask for a recurring summary of a defined topic or a checklist for a regular planning task. Treat these as ideas, not guarantees that Grok has access to every source or account you may want to use.

How to create a useful scheduled task

The exact labels or layout may change. In the documented workflow, you describe the job in Grok, configure its mode and schedule, name it, and save it. Use this sequence to make the result easier to judge:

Aeotec Smart Home Hub2 - V4, Works as a SmartThings Hub, Zigbee, Matter Gateway, Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, WiFi (No Z-Wave)
  • Powered by SmartThings: Connect, monitor, and automate your home through the SmartThings app. Build a reliable, unified smart home using Samsung's proven ecosystem
  • Matter + Zigbee Smart Home Hub: Supports the newest Matter standard plus Zigbee for lighting, sensors, plugs, switches, thermostats, and more - thousands of compatible devices. PLEASE NOTE: Z-Wave not supported
  • Easy Setup with Wi-Fi or Ethernet: Get started in minutes using Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection for apartments, houses, and expanding smart home systems - Z-Wave not supported
  • Automations That Work for You: Create custom routines for security, lighting, comfort, and energy savings. Many local automations continue working even if your internet goes offline
  • Wide Device Compatibility: Connect compatible smart devices from Aeotec and many other brands to build a unified system for lighting, voice control, energy management, and climate settings
  1. Choose one repeat task. Start with something you currently prompt for repeatedly, such as a brief or reminder. Avoid combining unrelated jobs in one automation.
  2. Specify the deliverable. Say what Grok should produce, how much detail you want, and what belongs in scope. For example: “Create a five-bullet morning brief about major developments in [topic]. Include dates and links when available; if there are no substantial updates, say so.” This is a sample instruction, not a guaranteed data-source capability.
  3. Explain how to handle missing information. Tell Grok whether to state that information is unavailable, skip a section, or ask you to check manually. This makes an incomplete input less likely to look like a complete result.
  4. Choose a mode, schedule, and timezone. Select the cadence and local time that fit the job. If you only need a single future run, use the once option rather than creating a recurring reminder.
  5. Name and save the automation. Give it a label that makes its purpose obvious in your list of jobs.
  6. Use “Run now” to inspect an initial result. Check whether the output follows your scope and format. Edit the instructions if it is too broad, misses an important qualification, or gives you more detail than you need.
  7. Choose delivery and review history. Select email, app notifications, both, or neither, then periodically inspect the saved conversations to ensure the automation remains useful.

Can Grok send a daily summary?

It can run a scheduled job daily, and you can choose how to be notified of the result. For a daily summary, specify the subject, desired length, relevant sources or boundaries, and what to say when there is little or no new information. Check an initial run before treating it as dependable; a schedule automates the request, not the accuracy or completeness of every answer.

Use connected accounts carefully

Connected services are optional and depend on their own setup and permissions. xAI’s Gmail and Google Calendar connector documentation says Grok can search and read mail and calendar information. With appropriate write permissions enabled, it can also draft or send email and create, update, or delete calendar events. Gmail and Calendar use separate OAuth sign-in and permissions, so do not assume that connecting one grants access to the other or that write actions are enabled by default.

For a first automation, prefer a read-and-summarize task or a reminder over an action that changes records or contacts other people. Review any proposed email or calendar change before enabling the permissions needed to carry it out.

Keep sensitive actions under review

xAI documents a separate feature called Grok Bot routines. A routine is a workflow assigned to a Bot and its trigger; a skill is instructions for how to do a task. These are related ideas, but they are not the same documented interface as Grok Automations. Guidance for Bot routines should not be mistaken for controls confirmed in the Automations UI.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Bot routines specifically, xAI’s guidance recommends confirming the owning Bot, timezone, input source, output, and behavior when a source is missing; testing a skill before making it recurring; and requiring approval for consequential actions such as sending, purchasing, deleting, publishing, or changing production systems. Those are sound safeguards when designing automated work, but the Bot documentation does not establish that Grok Automations has the same approval controls.

What “freeing up mental space” can—and cannot—mean

A recurring automation can reduce the need to remember to send the same prompt again, and scheduled reminders can put a task in front of you at a chosen time. Whether that actually frees up attention depends on whether the output is useful, the notifications are well timed, and the task still receives the review it needs. xAI has not reported a measured reduction in stress, forgotten tasks, or time spent, so treat mental-space benefits as a practical goal to evaluate for yourself rather than a proven outcome.
