Tux Rewards is the Linux Foundation Training & Certification loyalty program: eligible purchases earn points, and 500 points unlock a 50% coupon for an eligible course, exam, bundle, or IT Professional Program. The current program page says enrollment is automatic after $500 in qualifying spend; its rules differ from the original 2021 launch announcement, so the current FAQ is the better guide to present-day eligibility and expiry.
How Tux Rewards works
Linux Foundation Training & Certification launched Tux Rewards on October 12, 2021, describing it as a way to reward customers who buy training courses and certification exams. The launch announcement said, “Linux Foundation Training & Certification is pleased to announce that we have launched a new loyalty program to reward those who frequently participate in training courses and certification exams.” The announcement is useful for the program’s history; the current Tux Rewards page provides the published rules now.
Points and enrollment
The current FAQ says members earn one point per dollar spent, up to 500 points per day. Enrollment is automatic after $500 in qualifying spend, and points can take up to 72 hours to appear. The daily cap is not the same as the launch announcement’s 500-point-per-transaction cap.
Refunded orders do not count. Purchases made by invoice or with redemption codes do not earn points, according to the current FAQ. Points are attached to an individual account and cannot be pooled with points from another account.

What 500 points earns
At 500 points, a member can claim a 50% coupon for one eligible course, certification exam, bundle, or IT Professional Program. The FAQ excludes FinOps Certified Practitioner and THRIVE subscriptions, including bundles that contain THRIVE. The discount is a coupon benefit, not a promise that every Linux Foundation product is eligible.
How to claim and use a coupon
- Sign in to the account that earned the points and open the profile’s Purchases and Coupons area.
- Claim or generate the available 50% coupon there once the account has reached 500 points.
- Choose an eligible course, exam, bundle, or IT Professional Program, then enter the coupon code at checkout.
Points cannot be transferred or combined across accounts. The FAQ says a generated coupon may be shared, but that does not change the account-bound nature of the points used to earn it.

When points and coupons expire
The current FAQ says a member must make at least one purchase of any amount each year to remain enrolled. It also says the 500 points and coupon expire if the coupon is not generated and redeemed within one year of the last purchase. Since the page does not show a publication or revision date, check its current terms before relying on a balance or planned redemption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What changed since the 2021 launch
The original announcement described different timelines and some additional perks. It said 500 points accumulated within two years qualified a customer for automatic enrollment; points were capped at 500 per transaction; and a 50% voucher followed the transaction that brought the balance to 500 or more. It also mentioned monthly promotions and early access to selected launches for people whose purchases fell within the preceding three years, plus retroactive credit of up to 500 points for qualifying purchases made during the prior two years. Those statements describe the launch offer, not confirmed current benefits.

The currently linked FAQ instead states a 500-point daily cap, annual purchase activity to remain enrolled, and a one-year window tied to the last purchase for generating and using the coupon. It does not repeat the old retroactive-credit offer or the launch-era promotions. For current eligibility, exclusions, and expiry, use the current Tux Rewards page rather than assuming every launch term still applies.
