To redeem an Amazon gift card, sign in to the Amazon account that should receive the funds, then enter the card’s claim code on Amazon’s website or in the app. For an e-gift card, open its delivery link and select Apply to your Amazon Account. Amazon stores redeemed value in that account and automatically applies it to the next eligible order.
Redeem a physical gift card on Amazon’s website
- Sign in to the Amazon account where you want the gift-card balance.
- Open Redeem a Gift Card.
- Reveal the claim code under the card’s peel-off or scratch-off area. Amazon says a claim code is usually 14 or 15 characters and generally contains letters and numbers.
- Enter the code and select Redeem or Apply to your balance.
Redeem a gift card in the Amazon app
- Open the app and sign in to the account that should receive the value.
- Tap the menu or account control, then open Manage gift card balance under payments.
- Choose Redeem Gift Card.
- Type the claim code or use the camera to scan it, then follow the on-screen prompt to redeem.
Amazon’s app guide describes this route, but labels can vary by country and app version. If you do not see the exact wording, look in the account or menu area for gift-card balance management.

Apply an electronic gift card
Some e-gift cards arrive by email or text without a separate code to enter. While signed in to the intended account, open the delivery link and select Apply to your Amazon Account. Verify which Amazon account is signed in before applying the card, because the value is credited to that account.
Redeem an unclaimed card during checkout
If you have not yet redeemed a physical card, Amazon also lets you enter its code during checkout. Choose Use a gift card, voucher, or promo code, enter the claim code, and select Apply.

#1 Best Overall

- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.

Where the balance goes and how it is used
Once redeemed, the value is held in the Amazon account used to claim it. Amazon automatically applies it to the next eligible order. If that order costs more than the gift-card balance, the remainder is charged to your default payment method. Amazon gift cards cannot be used to buy other gift cards.
If your Amazon gift-card code does not work
- Check the account. Make sure you are signed in to the account where you want the value credited.
- Check the code. Enter it exactly as printed, taking care not to confuse similar-looking characters.
- If the code is unreadable, use Amazon’s gift-card redemption help or contact Amazon customer support. Whether a card can be recovered depends on the card and its purchase record.
- If you already redeemed the card, check the gift-card balance in the account you used. A successful redemption credits that account, not necessarily the one you use most often.
Keep the gift-card code private
Amazon warns: “DO NOT share Gift Card details with someone you don’t know or trust.” Anyone who gets the claim code may spend the funds before you can report the fraud. Do not give a code, PIN, or photo of a card to an unsolicited caller or texter, or to anyone demanding payment outside Amazon. Amazon.com Gift Cards are not a way to pay third-party merchants directly.
