To change your Twitter password while signed in, go to Settings and privacy → Your account → Change your password. Enter your current password, enter the new one twice, then save. Twitter is now called X, so the same steps apply to your X account.
Change your password while you’re signed in
Choose the instructions for the device you’re using. You’ll need to know your current password.
In the X app on iPhone, iPad, or Android
- Open the X app and sign in.
- Open the navigation menu and tap Settings and privacy.
- Tap Your account, then Change your password.
- Enter your current password, then enter your new password in both the new-password and confirmation fields.
- Tap Done.
On X.com in a desktop browser
- Click More in the navigation bar.
- Select Settings and privacy.
- Under Your account, click Change your password.
- Enter your current password, then enter the new password twice.
- Click Save.

Reset your password if you forgot it
If you can’t enter your current password, use the reset flow instead. You can start from X.com, mobile.X.com, or the X app.

- On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot password?
- Enter the email address, phone number, or username associated with the account.
- If prompted, choose where to receive a verification code, by email or SMS.
- Enter the code and follow the prompts to set a new password.
X says email and SMS reset codes are valid for 60 minutes. Resetting your password logs out active X sessions. SMS recovery is unavailable for accounts enrolled in login verification; use email for those accounts. See X’s password-reset guidance.
If you can’t access the email or phone on the account
X uses the linked email address or phone number to verify identity, so recovery options are limited if you can’t access either one.

- If you’re still signed in on an X app or browser, keep that session available while you check the account’s contact details and attempt recovery.
- If you don’t know which email or phone is linked, try the username in the reset flow; X may help identify the available recovery destination.
- If neither channel is available, contact X Support and follow its account-access guidance.
Choose the right method

Make the new password harder to guess
X Help recommends a unique password of at least 10 characters, using a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid personal information and common sequences, and don’t reuse a password from another site. X also suggests considering password-management software to store login details. Read X’s account-security tips.
For additional protection, enable two-factor authentication and password-reset protection in the account security settings. Two-factor authentication adds another verification step, such as a phone or security key.

If someone may have accessed your account
Change the password promptly, then review connected apps. X warns that changing the password does not automatically log the account out of X for iOS or Android applications.
- Sign in to X online and open Settings and privacy.
- Open Apps in settings and revoke access for any app you don’t recognize or no longer trust.
- Secure the email account linked to X as well, especially if you suspect it was also accessed.
A revoked app will ask for the new password the next time it launches. See X’s guidance for compromised accounts.

Avoid password-reset phishing
Before entering your password, check that the address bar uses the x.com base domain. X says it will never ask you to send your password by email, Direct Message, or reply. Go directly to x.com rather than following a suspicious link. More details are in X’s phishing guidance.

Troubleshoot a missing or failed reset
- No reset message: Check spam or junk folders and make sure you entered the correct email address or phone number.
- Reset link or code fails: Start a new reset while the code is still within its 60-minute validity period. For a browser issue, try another browser or computer, allow cookies, or clear the browser cache before setting the new password.
- “Locked out!” message: X says this security lock normally clears after about an hour. Avoid requesting repeated resets while waiting.
