The announced arrangement also made PartMiner e2open’s exclusive hard-to-find-parts partner and proposed that it act as a market maker when supply and demand did not balance. The report described integration as beginning that week; it did not establish that integration was completed or that the relationship continued.
How the PartMiner–e2open arrangement was supposed to work
Supply & Demand Chain Executive reported on October 10, 2000, that e2open buyers would gain access to PartMiner’s component catalog and hard-to-find-parts service. PartMiner was described as providing marketplace technology and procurement services. The roles and terms in the table are those reported in the 2000 announcement, not evidence that every feature was implemented or remained in place. A 2001 Luleå University of Technology document also described the proposed combination of PartMiner’s technology, content and services with e2open, but it is historical context rather than confirmation of later results. What “market maker” meant in this plan
The reported market-maker role addressed an imbalance: when buyers wanted parts that sellers were not supplying, or available supply did not match demand, PartMiner was expected to help fill the gap. The report does not provide operational details about how that would work, nor measured results such as fulfillment rates, savings or adoption. It therefore supports describing the intended role, not claiming the marketplace achieved a particular outcome.

What the announcement does—and does not—show
The contemporaneous report said the companies were to begin integration that week. That establishes a planned next step as of October 10, 2000, but does not document when or whether integration was completed, how long the relationship lasted, or whether the announced services reached buyers as described. Mark Holman, then e2open’s president and CEO, summarized PartMiner’s intended contribution: “PartMiner delivers content and technology to e2open, which augments our existing technology platform and value proposition.” Supply & Demand Chain Executive, October 10, 2000
How to interpret the partnership today
e2open’s current materials describe broader supply-chain capabilities, including multi-tier supply visibility, direct sourcing and procurement, and automated exchanges among partners. Its partner page discusses alliance and reseller relationships that may include implementation and integration. The historical significance is narrower: the announcement joined an online components marketplace with a large catalog, specialist sourcing for hard-to-find parts and a proposed mechanism for addressing supply-demand gaps. It should not be read as evidence of a current PartMiner service or an ongoing e2open partnership.
