In October 2014, Houston-based Accudata Systems announced a partnership with Honeywell Analytics to sell ConneXt Pro, a wireless gas-monitoring system that combined portable detector readings with operator-location information and displayed both on a facility map. The key difference from a personal gas alarm was visibility: staff elsewhere on a drilling site or refinery could see where a reading came from and where workers were located. The announcement described a historical offering; the sources reviewed do not establish that ConneXt Pro is still sold or supported.

What Accudata and Honeywell announced

CRN reported on October 20, 2014, that Accudata had teamed with Honeywell Analytics to sell ConneXt Pro. The report called it a newly released offering and said it had been released “in June,” without specifying the year alongside that timing. Accudata CEO Patrick Vardeman said the companies had begun collaboration discussions 18 months earlier. Those dates describe the announcement period, not a current product launch or partnership status. CRN’s October 20, 2014 report.

Accudata presented the deal as its first step into the Internet of Things (IoT). Vardeman said at the time that the company expected IoT to become a core business area and was hiring people with electrical and mechanical engineering experience while training existing staff. These were plans reported in 2014, not evidence of Accudata’s present-day strategy. CRN also said the company expected most ConneXt Pro sales to go to exploration or refining businesses. Vardeman described discussions with companies ranging from small exploration operators to major oil companies; the report does not confirm that those discussions resulted in purchases or deployments.

How the wireless monitoring system was described

According to CRN, portable monitors connected to a wireless network sent toxic-gas readings, including readings for hydrogen sulfide, while the system also tracked operator locations. Staff could view the information on a graphical overlay of a drilling site or refinery. The combination made a detector’s reading more useful to people beyond the wearer: a safety team could see where a person was and where an alarm or reading originated.

Vardeman described the difference this way: “Without the ConneXt Pro, only the operator would know if his or her gas monitor was going off.” He said personnel in a safety shed could use the added information for preventive maintenance and to shape an emergency response. These are descriptions and intended uses attributed to the company in the 2014 report, not independent evidence that the system reduced incidents, false alarms, or response times.

What it added beyond a personal alarm

A personal gas detector is designed to monitor the wearer’s exposure and alert that person. The ConneXt Pro concept added a communications and information layer: wireless readings, worker location, and a site-level display for staff elsewhere at the facility. That shift in audience was central to Accudata’s pitch. Vardeman told CRN, “The big change for us is who’s the audience,” referring to the health-and-safety stakeholders who could use information beyond the individual operator.

Honeywell 5800PIR Wireless Motion Detector
  • Motion Detector
  • Model Number: 5800PIR
  • Item Package Dimensions: 5.6" L x 6.3" W x 9.4" H
  • Item Package Weight: 3.9 lb
  • Personal alarm: alerts the wearer to a detected gas condition.
  • Connected monitoring: transmits readings so others can view them remotely, depending on the system and network.
  • Location-aware site view: associates information with operator location and facility context, as CRN described for ConneXt Pro.

A portable detector alone should not be assumed to provide the location-aware network and mapped display described for ConneXt Pro. The 2014 report does not identify the compatible detector models, and the current sources reviewed do not provide a ConneXt Pro compatibility matrix.

Who it was aimed at, and what it cost

The reported target settings were oil-and-gas exploration and refining, where staff may need visibility across a large or distributed worksite. CRN described the product as relevant to personnel monitoring conditions at drilling sites and refineries. Vardeman also said the risks he associated with oil and gas remained relevant, but the report offered no quantified safety outcomes or independent evaluation.

Honeywell BW Clip4 BWC4-Y-N 4-Gas Detector (O2,LEL,CO,H2S)
  • Automatically logs 70 most recent events
  • Performs one internal diagnostic test every 24 hours
  • Two year continuous operation
  • Flashing red non-compliance indicators warn that the detector has not been bump tested according to schedule

There was no published fixed price in the report. Vardeman said pricing would depend on the size of the operation and its monitoring environment. CRN noted that hosted deployments could create recurring revenue for Accudata, but gave no amount or pricing model.

What Honeywell’s current portfolio does—and does not—establish

Honeywell’s current industrial gas-detection overview describes a broader portfolio that includes fixed-point and open-path systems, portable personal monitors, calibration gases, centralized management software, and wireless or hardwired deployment options. Its cloud fleet-management description includes near-real-time readings, device status, and calibration or bump-test tracking. This is current portfolio context, not confirmation that ConneXt Pro remains available or that any current Honeywell device works with it. Honeywell 5853 Wireless Glass Break Detector
  • Sleek design with front and back case tamper
  • Ten year battery life with easily replaceable batteries
  • Senses the sound of variety of glass (tampered, wired, laminate, ordinary plate, etc.)
  • Four selectable sensitivity settings (Max, Medium, Low and Lowest)
  • Test mode can be activated remotely with FG-701 Tester (sold separately)

Honeywell also describes remote visibility into readings from portable BW gas detectors and says an adapter can provide wireless visibility without purchasing a wireless detector. That illustrates how connected monitoring can involve both instruments and communications components; it does not establish compatibility with ConneXt Pro. Honeywell remote monitoring.

Other current examples include the Versatilis Signal Scout methane sensor and its mobile configuration application, and the transportable BW RigRat multi-gas area monitor. They are distinct products, not components identified in the ConneXt Pro deployment. Honeywell Safety Suite release notes include product updates and supported-instrument details through 2025, but do not establish ConneXt Pro’s lifecycle or support status. What to verify before considering a present-day system

The available sources do not establish whether ConneXt Pro is currently sold or supported, which detectors worked with its 2014 deployment, or whether legacy installations can connect to newer Honeywell products. Anyone assessing a current industrial monitoring setup should confirm these points directly with Honeywell or an authorized industrial safety provider rather than infer compatibility from similar product names or functions.
