Yes—you can program the Vincross HEXA yourself. It runs MIND, a Linux-based operating system, and its MIND SDK lets developers create installable applications called Skills. HEXA was designed for walking, climbing and exploration, but current availability and support are uncertain: a retailer listing showed it out of stock. Here’s what the robot offers and what to consider if you’re looking for a programmable hexapod today.
What is the Vincross HEXA?
HEXA is a six-legged robot made by Vincross. Its all-terrain design and sensors are intended for movement and exploration, rather than for a single fixed task. The starter guide describes walking, climbing and passing through caves as capabilities; these are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance-test results. Vincross’s starter guide presents the robot as a platform for users to control and extend.
Published launch specifications describe a robot 12 cm tall and 50.8 cm in diameter, weighing about 1.5 kg with a payload of about 1.5 kg. It has six legs, each with three joints, and a head that rotates 360 degrees. These are the manufacturer’s stated specifications, not measurements from an independent test. The launch press release also lists its computing, connectivity and sensor details.
What can HEXA do?
The starter guide identifies Explore, Dance and Simulator Kit as preinstalled Skills. Explore supports the robot’s exploration-oriented use, Dance provides a movement behavior, and Simulator Kit offers a way to work with a virtual HEXA. The guide also describes a Skill Store where users can download or publish other Skills. The starter guide does not establish whether the store or its services remain available today.

Vincross’s launch examples include palm-following control, remote inspection of narrow or inaccessible spaces, and programming HEXA to move a potted plant toward sunlight. These illustrate ideas the platform was designed to support; they should not be read as independently verified results. The launch press release gives those examples.
Can you program HEXA yourself?
Yes. MIND is HEXA’s Linux-based operating system, and the MIND SDK is the developer toolkit for creating Skills—applications that can control the robot’s behavior and work with its sensors and connected hardware. The starter guide describes Skills as installable applications, with preinstalled examples and a store model for additional ones. Vincross’s guide is the source for this software description.

HEXA’s published hardware interfaces include USB 2.0, a 3.5 mm audio connection, I2C, ADC, GPIO, and 5 V and 3.3 V outputs. Those interfaces provide ways to connect peripherals, but the availability of current SDK downloads, documentation, firmware and developer support is not established by the historical product material. The mobile app is described as a setup and control option; verify that it and the developer resources still work before buying a used unit.

All figures in the table come from Vincross’s launch press release and are published specifications, not independently measured results. Battery life is given as a wide range without usage conditions, so it is not a reliable prediction of runtime for a particular Skill or terrain.

Is HEXA still available to buy?
Availability is unclear. Oz Robotics listed HEXA for $1,920 and marked it “Out of stock” when the retailer page was checked. That listing does not confirm present stock, and the available information does not establish current sales or support from Vincross. Check the Oz Robotics listing and verify stock, returns, parts, app access, firmware and SDK access directly before committing to a purchase.

If you want a programmable six-legged robot you can obtain as a learning project, these kits offer a different proposition: they emphasize building and coding, rather than replicating HEXA’s integrated exploration platform.

For a learner, the Insectbot Hexa’s graphical programming support may make it a more approachable starting point. For someone who wants source code, tutorials and sensor-driven projects, Hiwonder’s miniHexa is another option. Check the current product listing for the exact kit contents and software materials before ordering.
