Yes. Google released an Arm-optimized version of Chrome for Windows on Arm PCs in the week of March 26, 2024, so compatible Snapdragon-powered laptops can run the browser natively rather than emulating its x86_64 build. This is a 2024 launch, not a new 2026 release—and existing owners did not need to buy a new laptop to get it.

What “optimized for Arm” means

Windows on Arm PCs use processors based on the Arm architecture. A native Arm64 (also called AArch64) application is built to run on that processor architecture. Before Chrome had a native Windows-on-Arm build, the x86_64 Windows version could run through Windows’ emulation layer. The native build avoids that emulation for Chrome itself.

Google announced that Chrome was rolling out for Arm-compatible Windows PCs powered by Snapdragon, describing the aim as faster, smoother browsing through software optimized for the PC hardware and operating system. Qualcomm said the download was available to existing Windows-on-Snapdragon device owners. The announcement was about Chrome on those Windows devices; it did not mean that every Windows app or accessory had become native or compatible. Google’s announcement and Qualcomm’s announcement describe the launch.

What the performance evidence shows

There are two distinct vendor-published comparisons in the cited announcements and technical explanation. They use different benchmarks and setups, so their results should not be combined into a single predicted improvement for all users.

Test Reported result What it does—and does not—show
Qualcomm’s preliminary Speedometer 2.1 results on Snapdragon X Elite reference devices, announced March 26, 2024 Qualcomm reported an improvement for native Chrome but did not provide a score or percentage. A qualitative result on reference devices, not a quantified promise for every laptop or browsing task. Qualcomm’s release.
Arm’s Chrome DevTools Performance comparison on Windows Dev Kit 2023, using one popular news website Emulated x86_64 Chrome 125.0.6422.61 versus native AArch64 Chrome: scripting, 4.4 seconds versus 1.5 seconds; system tasks, 1.7 seconds versus 0.4 seconds; rendering, 0.9 seconds versus 0.18 seconds. Arm said the emulated version took nearly 16 seconds to load the site. These are timings from Arm’s specific website test, not typical results established for all sites, devices, or workloads. Arm says tests on other news websites showed similar results.
Arm’s Speedometer 3.0 comparison on Windows Dev Kit 2023 Arm reported a score more than three times higher for native Chrome than emulated x86 Chrome. Speedometer measures responsiveness across simulated web-application interactions. It does not directly establish every site’s load time, battery life, or an individual user’s experience.

Arm’s figures come from its own comparison of the emulated x86_64 Windows build with the native AArch64 build, not from a broad independent survey. They illustrate why avoiding emulation can matter for browser work; they do not establish a universal percentage gain. Arm’s comparison and test description provide the setup and results.

How to get Chrome on a Windows-on-Arm PC

  1. Open Google’s Chrome download page and follow its current download flow.
  2. Check the installer and current Windows support requirements shown by Google for your device. Requirements and download availability can change; the cited platform documentation directs Windows minimum-requirement questions to Google Support rather than specifying a Windows build number. See Chromium’s supported-platform documentation.
  3. Install Chrome and use the browser normally. The original rollout was for Arm-compatible Windows PCs powered by Snapdragon, and Qualcomm said existing Windows-on-Snapdragon owners could download it; a new Snapdragon X Elite laptop was not a prerequisite.

What this announcement does not tell you

  • It is not a guarantee that every page feels faster. A browser benchmark or one website test cannot predict performance across every site, extension, device, or network condition.
  • It is not proof that all Windows software works natively. This release addressed Chrome. App, game, and peripheral compatibility depend on their own software and drivers.
  • It is not a laptop recommendation. The cited Chrome results do not compare laptop models, prices, battery life, or performance for other workloads. If choosing a Windows-on-Arm PC, check compatibility with the apps and peripherals you rely on and compare battery life under comparable test conditions.
