Safari on iOS 11 gained major web-platform capabilities, but the available documentation does not establish an iPhone Settings screen in iOS 11 formally called “Feature Flags” or “Experimental WebKit Features.” WebKit’s feature-flag documentation instead describes developer-facing switches in Safari’s Develop menu and MiniBrowser. The distinction matters: a feature Safari shipped is not the same thing as an experimental option a developer could toggle.
What did “Safari feature flags” mean in iOS 11?
WebKit described feature flags as runtime switches that let a client application expose experimental work for testing without fully exposing it to the web. Its documentation separates two categories:

- Experimental features: Intended for web developers and exposed through Safari’s Develop menu and MiniBrowser.
- Internal Debug features: Intended for WebKit developers and exposed through a Debug menu; WebKit said web developers were not expected to change them.
This is a description of developer tooling, not evidence of a user-facing iPhone Settings page bearing either label. The documentation does not establish the precise labels or defaults for every iOS 11 beta and device. WebKit’s feature-flag documentation explains the distinction and context.
Which features did Safari 11 bring to iOS 11?
In its September 22, 2017 announcement, WebKit highlighted these capabilities for Safari 11, available with iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. The announcement also covered macOS Sierra and OS X El Capitan for the improvements it described, but that does not mean every developer workflow was identical across iPhone and Mac.
