He was talking about music and performer authenticity—not making a documented claim about every use of artificial intelligence.
What Ice Cube said—and what he was discussing
In the interview, Cube discussed contemporary rap, Auto-Tune and computer-generated performers. He said he believed listeners wanted to hear artists’ real voices and predicted resistance to music that sounded artificial. His phrase “I think AI is demonic” was an expression of that view, as reported by Fox News, The FADER and Fortune.
Coverage connected his remarks to “Heart on My Sleeve,” a track described as using AI-generated vocals imitating Drake and The Weeknd. The FADER reported that Cube objected to the track and said Drake should sue its creator. The example helps establish the context: his criticism focused on generated music and recognizable voices, rather than AI in general.
Why he distinguished voice imitation from sampling
Cube’s argument drew a line between music sampling and using AI to reproduce someone’s voice. In Fortune’s account, he said samples may be approved or denied by song owners, while creating a new song with a dead artist’s voice without approval was different. The Independent also reported his position that a person’s original voice should not be manipulated without payment.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is Cube’s analogy and position, not a ruling about copyright or a complete account of voice and likeness law. Sampling and AI-generated voice imitation can raise different factual and legal questions; his comparison should not be treated as proof that the law handles them in the same way.
What he said he would do about an AI Ice Cube song
The FADER and The Independent reported that Cube said he would sue people involved if an AI-generated version of his voice were made or distributed. He put his position bluntly: “Somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.”

In context, “demonic” was Cube’s emphatic criticism of AI-generated music and voice imitation that he viewed as lacking authenticity or permission. He also predicted that listeners would want “things organic and not artificial.” That is his expectation about audience reaction, not evidence of how listeners as a whole respond.
