Announced on July 12, 2013, FieldView Solutions’ DCIM Suite 6.0 centered on making data-center monitoring data easier to reuse in other applications. Its two main links served different needs: DataView exposed cached historical data for trends and planning, while LiveView supplied current temperature and power readings for operations.

What FieldView 6.0 changed

FieldView Solutions, a New Jersey-based provider of data-center infrastructure-management (DCIM) software, described version 6.0 as a move away from building a separate custom integration for each application. Instead, the update introduced two reusable ways for other systems to access or receive FieldView data. The aim was to make monitoring information useful across data-center operations and planning tools.

Tim Regovich, then FieldView Solutions’ chief technology officer, said: “FieldView 6.0 represents a wealth of customer feedback and the realization to conform our solution to better meet the needs of a global marketplace.”

How DataView and LiveView differed

Link Data supplied Intended use
DataView A non-compressed cache of historical data Historical and trend analysis, including use by asset-management and capacity-planning applications
LiveView The most recent temperature and power measurements A current, at-a-glance view of data-center operations

DataView was meant for looking across time and supporting planning; LiveView was meant for seeing current operating conditions. Together, the links were intended to connect DCIM information with asset, systems, network-management, financial, facilities-control, IT-power, and ticketing applications.

Other capabilities announced for the update

FieldView also outlined additional capabilities it said were planned for Q3 and Q4 of 2013. These were announced delivery plans, not evidence that each feature shipped or remains available today.

Planning, analytics, and reporting

  • Extended business intelligence: space, power, and cooling capacity planning.
  • Data-warehouse Excel integration: customizable queries and regression runs.
  • What-if planning: forecasting space, power, and cooling against available capacity, with deployment simulation.
  • Energy-optimization reports: trends in power, cooling, and space, with identification of long-term server power draws or anomalies.

Dashboards, alarms, and connected workflows

  • Configurable dashboard widgets: display items such as PUE data or alarms.
  • Ticketing integration: connect alarms to ticketing systems, including generated and aggregated alarms.
  • IT asset synchronization: import and synchronize assets in a common format.

Access, languages, and units

  • Mobile access: HTML5 optimization for smartphones and tablets.
  • Language support: Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, German, and Spanish.
  • Units: metric or imperial measurements.

What the 2013 announcement does—and does not—establish

The announcement documents FieldView’s integration approach and its planned feature set at that time. It does not establish which Q3/Q4 plans were ultimately delivered, whether FieldView is currently available, or what integrations are supported now. It also provides no pricing, performance benchmarks, or implementation results. Those details should not be inferred from the release announcement.
