The AMD Radeon RX 6600 is a 1080p-focused graphics card with 8GB of memory, modest power requirements and enough performance for high-refresh gaming in many titles. It is less convincing at 1440p ultra, and whether it is a good buy now depends on its live price, condition and competing cards—not its original $329 launch price.

What the RX 6600 is designed to do

AMD launched the RX 6600 on 13 October 2021 with a $329 suggested e-tail price (SEP). That is a launch figure, not a guide to today’s value. Tom’s Hardware’s launch-era review likewise concluded that the card’s appeal depended on street prices and availability. Check current listings and alternatives before buying.

The card uses AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture and has 28 compute units, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and 32MB of Infinity Cache. AMD lists typical board power at 132W and recommends a minimum 450W power supply. Its product page specifies one 8-pin power connector. These are useful system-planning figures, although a particular partner card may differ in cooler and clock design. AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card specifications and launch details are on AMD’s product page and October 2021 launch announcement.

Is the RX 6600 good for 1080p gaming?

Yes: 1080p is its natural target, including high-refresh play in some games. AMD’s product-page examples report the following frame rates at 1080p with maximum settings. These are AMD’s published figures, not results from an independent, standardized benchmark comparison.

Game AMD-published frame rate
The Division 2 98 FPS
Doom Eternal 138 FPS
Far Cry 6 102 FPS
Shadow of the Tomb Raider 118 FPS
Wolfenstein: Young Blood 173 FPS
Apex Legends 153 FPS
Fortnite 111 FPS
Valorant 452 FPS

Actual results vary with the game version, graphics settings, CPU, drivers and system configuration. Competitive games such as Valorant can run at very high frame rates, while demanding visual settings impose a heavier load; don’t treat one game’s result as a prediction for all games.

Can the RX 6600 handle 1440p?

It can run games at 1440p, but expectations should be lower than at 1080p. In Tom’s Hardware’s October 2021 review, several tested games fell below 60 FPS at 1440p ultra. The reviewer found that resolution less compelling at ultra settings; high or a mix of medium and high settings is a more realistic starting point. The review measured the RX 6600 about 9% behind the RTX 3060 at 1440p in its test comparison. Treat that as a result from that review’s games and test conditions, not a universal difference in every title. Tom’s Hardware’s 1440p results provide the benchmark context.

RX 6600 vs. RX 6600 XT and RTX 3060

The RX 6600 is the lower-performance choice among these cards in many scenarios. Tom’s Hardware found it about 15% slower than the RX 6600 XT in most cases in its launch-era testing. Its comparison also found weaker ray-tracing performance for the RX 6600 than competing cards in the review. The exact gap depends on the game and settings, so use benchmarks for the titles you play rather than assuming a fixed percentage across all workloads. Tom’s Hardware’s conclusion and comparisons summarize the tested trade-offs.

The RX 6600’s practical strengths are its 8GB capacity and 132W typical board power. The RTX 3060 was ahead in Tom’s Hardware’s 1440p comparison, while the RX 6600 XT delivered more performance in most tested cases. When comparing offers, look at resolution-specific average and 1% low frame rates, ray tracing, memory, power needs, upscaling support, cooler noise and the actual price. Partner-board coolers and acoustics vary: Tom’s launch review tested an XFX Radeon RX 6600 Speedster SWFT 210, so its cooling and noise observations do not automatically apply to every RX 6600.

Power supply and system requirements

AMD specifies 132W typical board power and recommends a 450W minimum PSU, with one 8-pin connector listed on its product page. Check the power supply’s available connector and overall suitability for your full system; the minimum recommendation is not a guarantee that every PSU rated at 450W is appropriate. Also check the exact board-partner card’s requirements, since designs can differ.

What is a fair price for an RX 6600?

There is no reliable current price established here. AMD’s $329 SEP was the October 2021 launch price, not today’s fair-value benchmark, and launch-era street prices should not be carried forward as current. Compare the card’s live price with available alternatives of similar performance before deciding.
