NetSpot 5.0 can help you find weak Wi-Fi areas by surveying coverage and displaying the results as heatmaps. It cannot boost a router’s signal or repair a dead spot on its own: use its measurements to guide changes to placement or configuration, then decide whether more hardware is warranted. NetSpot’s current features page advertises version 6.0, so version 5.0 is not the latest version listed by the publisher.

What NetSpot 5.0 does for Wi-Fi dead spots

NetSpot is diagnostic and planning software, not a signal booster. Its Survey mode can visualize measured coverage, helping you see where reception is weaker; Inspector provides information about nearby wireless networks; and Planning supports predictive network design. A heatmap is useful evidence, but its result reflects the survey measurements or the assumptions used in a planned design. It cannot guarantee that a particular placement or purchase will solve every connection problem.

NetSpot’s home page describes using heatmaps to discover weaker areas and evaluate possible access-point locations. The features page explains its Inspector, Survey, and Planning modes. Use those capabilities to investigate a problem and compare options—not as a substitute for changing the network itself.

How to use a survey to investigate weak coverage

  1. Start with the affected area. Survey the rooms and locations where Wi-Fi is unreliable, rather than relying on a single reading next to the router. For a meaningful coverage picture, use a floor plan and collect measurements across the relevant spaces.
  2. Review the coverage visualization. Look for areas that appear weaker in the Survey heatmap, and use Inspector’s nearby-network information as additional context. A weak reading identifies a place to investigate; it does not, by itself, establish the cause.
  3. Try changes before buying hardware. Test reasonable router or access-point placement changes and review channel configuration. Make one change at a time, then survey again to see whether the affected area improves.
  4. Consider additional equipment only if the gap persists. Depending on the layout and existing network, an additional access point, mesh system, or extender may be an option. NetSpot’s Windows page discusses identifying router locations and installing an extender, while its homepage describes evaluating access-point placement. Neither makes a particular device a guaranteed fix.

NetSpot’s Windows page describes network planning, surveying, and analysis. Use survey results to inform a decision about coverage; the software does not install or configure replacement network hardware for you.

Version, platform, and setup details to check

Support and features vary by platform and release. NetSpot’s current system requirements page says the 6.x Mac version supports macOS 11 (Big Sur) through macOS 26 (Tahoe), and that Inspector and Survey on macOS require Location Services. It lists Android 8.0 or newer and iOS/iPadOS 15.5 or newer; these mobile versions may not offer the same features as desktop versions.

The features page describes analysis across 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, use with standard wireless adapters, and project compatibility across Mac, Windows, and Android. Because the page advertises 6.0 and the requirements are version-sensitive, check the live requirements for your operating system, adapter, and intended mode before downloading or relying on older version-specific support.
